Subject: Censorship in Broward County Florida
Sun-Sentinel Posted September 27 2005 A controversial film on Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara will not be shown during Hispanic Heritage Month after all.
After community protests, the film Motorcycle Diaries has been postponed. It was scheduled to be shown at the Broward County Southwest Regional Library in Pembroke Pines on Oct. 3, during the statewide Sept. 15-Oct. 15 celebration.
"We've rescheduled it so as not to offend," said library director Robert Cannon. He did not have the new date late Monday. Cuban-born County Commissioner Diana Wasserman-Rubin said her staff had received numerous calls and e-mails protesting the movie, which shows how Guevara's youthful travels fed his revolutionary fervor.

This is not the first time a movie was banned by order of the Cuban community. Fahrenheit 911 was banned last year with little notoriety. I believe it is time that an end is put to censorship in our library.
There will be protests at the library on Monday night and we are trying to schedule a nearby room to screen the film for those who want to see it.
