Poll question: Yes or No? Antonin Scalia moves toward the center
Edited on Thu Sep-29-05 12:53 PM by brentspeak
Justice Scalia, pi$$ed off that so many years of personal lobbying for the Chief Justice spot have now been wasted, and perhaps feeling stabbed-in-the-back by the Republicans, lightens up on his RW rubber stamp role, and turns into another Anthony Kennedy.

on edit: corrected Scalia's first name

1. His name is "Antonin"
He'll never move anywhere except into the funeral home, with that weight and his bad, bad cigarette habit.

He never wanted to be CJ, by the way, is the scuttlebutt. He was too old, and he knew it. He's 69 years old, and not in the best of health.

2. udder
The best way for him to move to the center is to stay where he is while Gonzales and Roberts move the court to right coast. So, while he may appear more tame and sane, it would be only relative - relative to even worse choices.

3. That's right. That's how I ended up a "leftist". The talking heads
who get to define such things made Reagan the middle and Bush the responsible right. All I did was stand still from about 1976 and suddenly I'm entirely marginal.

5. Please. He's a die-hard idealogue
He doesn't even let silly things like the Constitution slow down his strict adherence to radical rightism.

Nothing's moving that guy off his radical stance.

6. Scalia is so far right he made Rehnquist look like a moderate.
The only way he could move toward the center is if a cattle stampede was coming at him from his right. Even then, he'd probably do an about face before starting to run.

Scalia is as batshit insane a right-wing conservative as you're ever likely to find.

7. Only if an ORGY case comes before the court
Challenged about his views on sexual morality, Justice Scalia surprised his audience at Harvard University, telling them: "I even take the position that sexual orgies eliminate social tensions and ought to be encouraged."

8. It Depends
On how much he thought the Chief Justice seat would fall to him by default based on his seniority, and how much he thought it was due him. He might have been as far right as they come, but sometimes those are the very ones that when hit with an insult such as being passed over for the Chief Justice nod from the Pres. could in fact as a way of getting even, move to the center or maybe even left of center. I frankly see it as a huge insult to Scalia to have been passed over fort the Chief Justice seat.
