Maybe, but I doubt that the "freedom" you'd find in a Freedom Museum would be any more substantial than what you'd find in a freedom fry.

Freedom museum for 9/11 abandoned

Controversial plans to build a museum celebrating the theme of freedom on the site of the World Trade Center in New York have been abandoned.

New York Governor George Pataki said there was "too much opposition, too much controversy" over the proposal.

Some families of those killed in the 11th September 2001 attacks opposed the International Freedom Center (IFC).

They were concerned that it would commemorate too many other events, and might overshadow a 9/11 memorial.

"Today there remains too much opposition, too much controversy, over the programming of the IFC and we must move forward with our first priority, the creation of an inspiring memorial to pay tribute to our lost loved ones and tell their stories to the world," Mr Pataki said in a statement.

7. They didn't like that it wasn't a whitewash

They wanted a "superpatriot" museum instead of one that actually talks honestly about freedom. Why is there such controversy over museums anyway? Shouldn't the unvarnished truth be told??? Does everything have to be whitewashed so as to resemble a Disney version of history?

8. Yes, that might have been a good idea.

The idea of Ground Zero as a new office/shopping mall without any deeper concept or cultural side is worrisome.
"Putting something in a museum" doesn't take it away, focussing on the "own" brand of it might very well limit it.

I might be prejudiced, but just looking at the list of the museum's opponents makes it sound like a good idea to me: Fox News, The NY Post and the Wall Street Journal
