Know any democrats who voted for fuckhead Arnold? Vetoes minimum wage
Edited on Thu Sep-29-05 10:23 PM by LaPera
A fucking republican is a fucking republican and will always vote in the corporations best interest...No matter how many lies and promises they make to help the people, to get their vote.

"Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill Thursday that would increase the minimum wage by $1 an hour to $7.75 over the next two years.

The bill, from Assemblywoman Sally Lieber, D-Santa Clara, would have also required the minimum pay be adjusted each year to keep up with inflation — a mandate that would begin in 2008.

"The minimum wage has not been increased since 2002"

"Schwarzenegger also vetoed:

--Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today delivered on his promise to veto legislation that would have given same-sex partners the right to marry, but said he would not support any rollback of the state's current domestic partner benefits.

That stance would put him at odds with two initiatives being pursued by conservative groups for the ballot next year. Those measures would not only prevent gay marriage, but also eliminate rights domestic partners currently enjoy.

--A bill that would have imposed stiff financial penalties on employers who are found to be paying equally qualified employees at different rates.

--A bill that would have forced employers and insurers who take injured employees to court before paying out workers' compensation benefits to pay a penalty.

1. The true face of the Republican party is shown
and it is indeed an ugly one.

2. I was really disappointed in Californians...
when Ahhnold got elected because I look to California as a bright beacon when it comes to progressivism. But I do think they're going to drag his ass out of the State House any day now, and that gives me some comfort.

4. The main problem with the min wage ---
As I see it is that increasing it in a single state does little for the whole---meaning that rather than complaining about it as far as a single legislature had voted to increase it, the Federal dept of labour needs to do some serious soul searching, and reccomend a federal increase.

Even a minimal federal increase of a dollar would cause employers to increase the lower paid employees that may currently make more than the minimum.

My thought that it may be better to minimalize the efforts of the states until the federals have a shot at it, and preferably a phased increase of perhaps 2 dollars over 18 months or so.

Just a foreign 2 pence of an idea.....

5. Get real! Republicans will NEVER address the minimum wage and this Yank
might open your eyes a bit to inform you this "federal" administration is in power until January 2009!

7. I agree with you that at least these might not
But republicans in the past have, and if it takes dragging out the W.I.N. buttons ---

Just an idea there --

Wages in America are at the point where Common Europe industies may in fact look to outsourcing into the States ---I personally do not think that would be a good thing--mainly because some of that includes moving existing manufacturing to Europe, and utilizing the lower American wages for the things that are traditionally manpower intensive like phone support and repair work.

Think bad things when traditional American manufacturing moves offshore but think worse when you become the overseas labour outsource.

9. Even before the gas hikes, just to keep up with inflation since
the last time Min wage was set - it would have to be closer to $10 / hour. More right now because of the gas gouging.

As for voting in Arnie - we were desperate to get rid of Grey Davis, and all of a sudden there were hundreds of thousands of people running for the fame. (It seemed) I did not vote for him - I'll never vote Repub. On the other hand - I did not vote for Gary Coleman, either - and I think that would have been the "Typical Californian" thing to do. hahaha - very funny.

10. What's this "we", Kemo Sabe?
I'm a Californian and I thought the entire recall was a pathetic joke. I voted for Gray Davis' reelection and I thought what happened to him was a disgrace. He was no colossus as a governor, but he didn't deserve that.
