Judith Miller's Plausible Reliability
Put yourselves in Scooter's shoes. (If you don't like Scooter, use Skippy or Bingo.):

Now that you've decided to take the heat off Judy Miller, what excuse (spin) will you come up with for keeping her locked up for so long?

You're not going to say, "I didn't want to be sent to prison for treason." And nobody's gonna believe that it was just a a matter of principle; that don't make no sense.

What is the line going to be? Can anybody come up with anything? Has anybody heard anything? Is he gonna wave a white flag?

1. It's got to be "Clinton made me do it"
Republicans always blame others.

2. You take the heat off because her "knowledge" is no longer a threat.
Something has changed in "their" world which makes anything Judy might say irrelevant, insupportable, or questionable.

5. To quote Rosanna Danna.... "oh never mind".... *grin
Seriously... something like "this was an unfortunate misunderstanding" and then blame someone or something.. like the legal system, Judy... or as was stated earlier...Clinton!!!

4. His lawyer said that they had NO IDEA
that she was in jail because of not wanting to reveal Libby. Claimed that they assumed she was speaking about someone else, since Libby had signed the release long ago.

so Judy doesn't have to protect him any more.

7. Maybe Ms. Miller wanted to make a spectacle out of herself
That is one explanation for her behavior. Another, is she may really believe in what she is doing, that the news must work with the powers that be.

Cause she has something dangling over their heads. She knows a lot probably.

But not to confuse the reader, I used the word news.

19. I'm not even comfortable with PROPAGANDA.
This is... Umm... I don't know what this is, but it's really bad. How about TREASONUNCIATION. Something like that.

12. Suuuuuuure
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/29/AR2005092901974_pf.html

"But Joseph Tate, an attorney for Libby, said yesterday that he told Miller attorney Floyd Abrams a year ago that Libby's waiver was voluntary and that Miller was free to testify. He said last night that he was contacted by Bennett several weeks ago, and was surprised to learn that Miller had not accepted that representation as authorization to speak with prosecutors.

"We told her lawyers it was not coerced," Tate said. "We are surprised to learn we had anything to do with her incarceration."

Tate said that he and Bennett then asked Fitzgerald whether their clients could talk without fear of being accused of obstructing the investigation, and were assured that Fitzgerald would not oppose them doing so. After the phone call from Libby on Sept. 19 or 20, Tate said, the lawyers wrote a letter to Fitzgerald indicating Miller accepted Libby's representation that the waiver was voluntary."

13. I think the whole issue of the "release" is bullshit, frankly. Miller's
not known for her journalistic integrity and has publicly burned a confidential source before.

But for some folks (like some of her fellow journalists apparently) she's apparently managed to rehabilitate herself from WMD slut to martyr to the first amendment. So that's been a bit of a coup for her.

15. I think we have to get away from the word SOURCE.
It really has no place in the Judith Miller story. Not in the journalistic sense anyways.

18. Yes you are correct. I've lapsed into using "source" through sloth. I
recall that previously Fitz has referred to Miller's "contact."

22. all I know is that some very powerful Republicans . . .
including, I believe, our new Chief Justice, visited her in jail . . . they were not visiting to help her select new draperies . . .

forgive me if I don't take this at face value . . . whatever that may be . . .
