Avoid controversy.
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 10:23 AM by kentuck
That is the way to win the moderates vote and to take back the House and Senate and to win the White House? How many of us actually believe we should avoid controversy? Is it even possible to avoid controversy with the present bunch of right-wingers in power? MAybe the way to win is to do the exact opposite - create controversy? Try it! You might like it?

1. "create controversy"
Yep. That's EXACTLY what every Dem in America should have been doing years ago.

11. and calmly sit back and point out the hypocrisy on the other side.
A little spine. I know it sounds bad to say this, but I think Bush must have banned stem cell research because he was afraid the dems were searching for a way to grow one. As bad as it is to say about some in the party, it's true. There are some in the party who stand up for our issues, but then there are some who could change everything by just standing upright and saying what they REALLY think. The entire political spectrum would shift so fast, the repubs' heads would spin.

You are right. The (elected) Dems have been too damn nice for years. Perhaps something to do with the Clinton thing. In the current environment, being "nice" is so counterproductive and boring that Dems are too often looked upon as being wimps. Look at how many Dems voted for Roberts. Why? To avoid being confrontational. But we're playing against viscious people who will do anything to hold onto and increase their power. Time to wake up and smell the shit.

3. We don't need to create controversy -- it already exists.
What we need are dems who will stand up, speak our convictions & point out the hypocrisy & corruption of the repukes. We need TRUE, PROGRESSIVE dems like Conyers who are not afraid to speak their convictions. Holy crap, I would love to kick some dem ass, starting with my DINO senator Salazar & a few others.

And did I hear that Kerry stated this week that we are making progress in Iraq? WTF??????????? The repukes will use that statement in future ads against dems.

6. Okay...hmmmm
thought-provoking. I think just because you focus on one issue, does not mean you don't think there are multiple issues to deal with. I guess it makes sense to go after an issue that is the most likely to achieve compromise first. It all depends on whether you want to simply make a big splash (perhaps in preparation for "the revolution") or whether you want to work within the system and get things accomplished. I guess there is a time for everything.

Calling the entire administration crooks, while true, might not have been good politics.

7. The point is to not be afraid....
that what you say might be controversial. Do not be so cautious that you end up like the poker player who never raises a bet. At the end of the night, he's gonna have less money than when he started. Sometimes you have to gamble.

9. So you think Democrats are holding "pocket deuces" ?
With the indictments, incompetence with the flood in New Orleans, attacks on Social Security, world record deficits, disrespect around the world, tearing down our military, etc? Are those pocket deuces?

10. Not anymore we aren't
I was referring back to the Kerry remark made before all this went down.

I think we have at least pocket Kings or maybe off-suit K-A.

What do you think?
