I have used this a 100 times in the past, and it almost always works…

Here is the typical RW Argument to almost everything…

You: Bush xxxx

Them: Well xxxx did xxxx

This is an attempt to deflect and place you on the defense, I always respond this way…

“It is a weak argument to attempt to justify bad behavior with bad behavior. Your mother should have taught you this. Just because Jimmy jumped off a bridge, does not make it right.”

This says, hey you may be right, but lets get back to the question at hand. They hate it!

5. I just go full-on libertarian on their asses

I am a libertarian, but a liberal. When I come across a shit-spewing wing-nut, I can usually block every talking point with libertarian views, then I accuse them of being authoritarians, supporters of big-government, shame them with Thomas Jefferson, and that's usually the end of it. A good psychological deconstruction never hurts, either. Hint: know your right wing ivory tower.

8. Honest question:

When you say you're a "liberal Libertarian", what do you mean by that? I ask only because I had no idea one could consider oneself both simultaneously (i.e. I always thought they were mutually exclusive political labels or theories).

9. There are many kinds of libertarians

In my case, I simply believe that large bureaucracies are ineffective and prone to being usurped, by, say, fascists. I also believe that community isn't defined by borders or nations -- though, as a minarchist, I do defer to the tenth amendment of the Constitution. There are, of course, problems in dealing with de-centralization, but, in my humble opinion, they're no more difficult than getting any other system to hum, effectively.

Other than that, and a segregationist streak that has nothing to do with racism and everything to do with effective, strong, minority communities, I'm pretty much progressive, on the local level.

There are geo-libertarians, anarchists, anarcho-syndicalists, and other kinds of left-orientated people who are actually against distant, large, bureaucratic government.

The newest RW mantra is "so what, it's an all volunteer military, they haven't instigated a draft yet" when asked about the deaths and casualties, and why we want the troops out of there.
