Do we just all assume every dem that ticks us off is in the DLC?

Sorry, just a major pet peeve I have about the DLC and DUers. Someone votes in a way that pisses us all off and we just ASSUME they're in the DLC. I know that Joe Biden gets it all the time but he has never been a party of the DLC (Oddly enough - John Kerry is).

Now we have this great thread about Barack Obama and right away the DLC label is coming out even though it was well documented that DLC just tossed him on the list and Obama asked that his name be removed.

Next time, before you accuse someone of being "DLC" confirm that they really are in the DLC and not just you slapping a label next to them because you're trying to think of some crazy insult.

Over an average two week period, it seems that every Democratic politician, recent past and present (except for a core of about 15 representatives), are cursed and vilified around here.

IMO, much more than individual Republican politicians are, oddly enough.

Thanks for your list. The "Gang of 18 or 14 Senators" (according to which Bill they are voting on) is DLC. Their names are very familiar to many of us who have viewed C-Span for years and noted those voting with the Repugs on the major bills that don't support Dem values. The others not on that list who vote with Repugs inconsistently are the Vichey's.

4. I don't blame Dems for working with the DLC.

The DLC is an important part of the party establishment right now, for better or worse, and most Dems would ignore them at their peril.

However, I do feel that the DLC champions policies that do not necessarily help the Democratic Party achieve its goals...in fact, the DLC tends to disagree with the majority of the Party about what, indeed, those goals are.

I wouldn't mind the DLC so much but for a few things:

1. They don't seem to have much of a grass roots organization.

2. Their goals seem more right than centrist, despite their claims.

3. They attack other Dems on a regular basis for disagreeing with them, and don't seem to realize that they are the minority in the party, not the other way around.

Is the presumption that every vote that goes against traditional Dem principles is due to the DLC. I pulled the list for the Endangered Species vote and it is not DLC Dems, it is RURAL Dems. Until we listen to the needs rural Americans have, needs that are not being met by current laws and regulations, we're not going to be able to run any effective 50 state campaign or regain a national stature.
