Is General Myers the Mike Brown of the military?

A little research shows me that the Chm of the Joint Chiefs has typically held his post for 3 or 4 years but nowhere do I see that there's any limit. Is Genl Meyers 'retirement' a reflection of how poorly the US invasion and occupation of Iraq is proceeding?
I mean, I'd love to see Rummy go to hell, but absent that, is Meyers 'retirement' some sort of 'falling on the sword for the big guy' symbol? It seems a little odd that you'd want a shake-up of military command structure right when you're in the middle of the biggest thing since Vietnam.

I understand that Chm of the Joint Chiefs isn't a political appointee in the way the head of FEMA is - at least I think I do ?
Anything nefarious going on? Other than the slightly scary appearance of all these military men in the capitol at the same time that * is talking about giving more power to the DOD to handle domestic emergencies?

IMO, he was shoved, if not pushed. He was all redfaced and tearful when they announced Pete Pace was moving up a few months back. He is an asskisser, and he is being replaced by an even bigger asskisser.

Overly "political" military senior leaders are the scourge of our Defense Department. At those levels, you have to be a bit savvy, but these clowns are way past the acceptable levels of buttsmooching. Sadly, most of the good ones have bailed....

And trust me on this, CJCS is the MOST POLITICAL appointment of all of the JCS appointments. And we've had two very political guys in there at the top, which is not a good thing for our military over the long haul. Neither one had the balls to tell the monkey the truth. It's sad that we have to rely on the junior officers to get that, nowadays...

usually only stays for 4 years. The reason he was appointed was his working with Star wars. He was supposed to work to get that idiotic program going.

Isn't his daughter up for some * administration job? Also, The Morning Edition had a piece on this morning about health care for the Katrina people and they played a tape of Scott MacMillen followed by an interview with Scoyy's brother who is a spokesperson for HSS. Are they all related?

7. More The Modern Day Wilhelm Keitel

In February 1938 Keitel became Commander-in-Chief of the High Command of the Armed Forces (OKW). He now arranged to have his friend, Heinrich von Brauchitsch, appointed as Commander-in-Chief of the Army.

During the Second World War Keitel, Alfred Jodl and Walther Warlimont were the most important figures in the OKW. He was a loyal supporter of Hitler's policies and after the invasion of Poland he issued orders to the Schutz Staffeinel (SS) and the Gestapo to exterminate the country's Jews.

Keitel advised against the Western Offensive and Operation Barbarossa but quickly backed down when Hitler responded aggressively. Both times he tried to resign but Hitler refused him permission to go.

In September 1942 Keitel and Alfred Jodl defended Field Marshal Siegmund List against the criticisms of Adolf Hitler. This resulted in Jodl being sacked and for many months afterwards Hitler refused to shake hands with Keitel. This was the last time that Keitel was to challenge Hitler's military decisions. He was now referred to by other officers as "Lakaitel" (the nodding ass).
