Is Bush/Neocon era part of the Reagan-era, sagebrush-rebellion, New Right?
Or it is a separate phenomenon?

1. Although many of the current actors in the neo-con
movement were in the Reagan whitehouse, they were actually called "the crazies" by the old guard republicans. So there is a connection, but the neo-cons are really a new and dangerous breed...IMO.

3. Alot of the neocons
are actually "disenfranchised Democrats" that pray to the alter of Scoop Jackson, a hawkish dem former Congressman from the state of Washington. These folks think the party left them on Defense/Israel issues, and are now Republicans. Hence, they have all of the militarism of Conservatives, with none of the fiscal responsibility.

2. No, rather the crony-corrupt incompetent texas right
Gross dereliction of duty and incompetence are neocon traits that
were less dominant in the cleaned-up post-nixon reformation. Now they've
declared nixon a saint and gone back to the old old ways of pork
politics and backhanders to their buddies.

4. A *lot* of these guys are Reagan-era retreads though
Not so much the Neocons, but a lot of the people who are in the Bush administration now were in the Reagan administration then. There are a bunch more like Abramoff, Norquist, and Reed who were eager young New Rightsters during the Reagan years. And the whole cut-taxes-for-the-rich-and-screw-the-poor philosophy comes right out of Reaganism.

So yeah, I'd say it's the same phenomenon, but in a kind of reductio ad absurdum.
