We all know the 2000 Pres. election was a FIX, I'd bet the farm that Jeb being re(s)elected was a fix too (keep in mind this state's election process is brought to you by...KKKatherine Hairass). And there is NO WAY in hell that such a liberal state like California would vote for a roid freak, sexist, Nazi...unless...IT'S A FIX.

WHERE IS THE PAPER TRAIL? Oh I forgot...electronic voting machines DON'T HAVE ONE.

Can't wait for 2004. They won't need to declare martial law. It'll be ALL 50 STATES FOR BUSH.

I don't know about the hari kari, but I had a deeply held feeling that the recall wouldn't go through. I was deeply disappointed with the results and wonder if the vote was fixed. It all happened so fast. The Right organizes things so well.

Yesterday I was reading how long it would take to count the votes. Like the 2 million votes cast early. Someone said they would be counted at the close of the polls and that would take a long time. Is this declaration of a winner based on exit polls?

i am scared at what this means. bush and his gang are going to use those voting machines to win 2004. they will be used in other states to get rid of democratic governors too. when bush finally has enough control over america what will happen then? concentration camps? i thought about an idea of bush in 2008 declaring there won't be any more presidential elections and he is the new dictator, and what's scary is i can really foresee that taking place. they are sneaking power through the backdoor until the day when they have enough power to do something openly.

For this to have been fixed would require a huge conspiracy

and a number of different voting machine companies (and

I was beginning to think I'd wandered into Freeperland by mistake. When did Democrats become this paranoid? I remember us being the party of reason and logic, not wild speculation.

All the polls whether done by liberals, conservatives or neutrals showed basically the same thing as the exit polls and the preliminary vote tabulation. There was no fix. Keep in mind that the candidates have their own polls, and if this was out of wack with what Davis's own polls showed he'd have said something. He conceded quietly and quickly-- he knew. And geeze, look at California. He may not have caused their problems, but he'd shown no ability to fix them. Trying doesn't count with voters.

As for Florida, Katherine Harris slanted the table with her voting purges and with her choice of voting equipment, and even possibly (to my mind probably) somehow had a lot of Palm Beach County and Duval County votes tampered with. But elections aren't run by the state, they are run at the local level, and it's damned hard to cheat, even with electronic voting. There are more methods of detection than people realize, there are reps of both parties monitoring things closely, and even with electronic voting there are double checks, pre-election equipment checks, and post-election equipment checks, and all of this is done at the local level by Democrats. (Republican districts are controlled by Republicans, of course, but they have little need to fix their own voters.)

Bush will be gone in five years, tops. Maybe one. Maybe sooner, even, though not likely. The system works, with occassional pockets of cheating (Hey, there was cheating when JFK won, even though he'd have won without it). Right now it's the media bias that's killing us, not to mention corporate money. Those things turn. Bush isn't helping anyone make money. They'll turn on him, and then we can listen to the Repubs whine about how the media always sides with us.

You live, you learn. Wait long enough on the bank of the river and you will see the body of your enemy floating past. So drive carefully, eat right, and watch for Bush bobbing in the surf. (That's a metaphor, SS, calm down.)

Davis was toxic and has been for a long time - long before the recall was even mentioned. If Riordan had been the GOP candidate in last years election Davis would have been long gone. He only survived that election because he was running against Bill Simon who is a right wing wacko.

I sensed we were going to get creamed early in the morning when I voted. I live in a very liberal area and the voting stations weren't busy and it seemed to me people were voting reulactantly. On the other hand DU'ers in conservative areas were reporting huge lines of voters.

This election was all about Gray Davis who's acted in the past few years as though all Democrats had to do in CA is show up at the election. If anything this will be a well deserved wake-up call for the Democrats in California.

I'm appalled that we have Arnold as our governor but I'm not exactly upset to see the last of Davis. A lot of Democrats I know feel the same way.

Remember that Davis had approval ratings in the 20's long before anyone even mentioned the recall. In a state with a huge Democrat majority, that should give you some idea of what happened yesterday.

Unfortunately something less than 5% of California's ballots were on electronic voting machines where there is no paper trail.

Deal with facts. I live here and saw what was going on. Davis was hugely unpopular way before the recall even started. Scores of Democrats voted for Arnold because they can't stand Davis. I know a bunch of them myself.

Turnout was far lower in strong Democrat areas than in strong GOP areas. I saw that with my own eyes. Davis & Bustamante failed miserable to motivate the Democrat base and the blind adoration of Arnold helped the GOP.

I sensed this was going to happen a week ago. There was no fix. Deal with it. No-one had to fix this election. Davis managed to fix it himself by being far to complacent.

If the Dems were smart they would have quietly gotten
their own celebrity candidate along the lines of Rob Reiner
or Martin Sheen who could have made an articulate case and
didn't have their fingerprints on every set of boobs in
Hollywood.

But there are people here who just won't understand that Davis was
toast a while ago and they've been fed so many stories about voting
machines that they are seeing fraud in every election.

There is no indication of that here.

What they rejected was a weak, badly damaged governor.

Trust me, California Democrats will be a lot better off for this having happened. They used to operate under the assumption that all they had to do was show up and they would win an election.

Now they actually have to get off their complacent asses and work for it. In the long run we'll all be better off for it.

can happen in the short-run. It's very interesting that people alwasy try to look on the bright side. How about this then. Bush's* re-election in 2004 will be good for the Democratic Party because in 2008 the country will be in such terrible, third-world shape, that the people will have to vote for us?? My instinct (sorry, no link) tells me that A. would have won no matter what. The stakes were too high for his felonious friends. Did they break out the voting fraud card? Maybe they didn't need to this time, but I suspect it was there just in case. I think GW was pretty telling yesterday, saying he couldn't wait to work with A and that he felt CA would make the right choice.

Don't give up! The pukes can take every damn office but they'll never take my spirit. Despite what the media says, there are A LOT of people who don't like the current situation. The worst thing we could do is cower under their pressure. I really believe there is a path out of every situation.
