What happened in CA will happen in the US if they run Lieberman

Will this be a lesson to the DNC/DLC?

Run a candidate Democrats don't like and they will

a) stay home (not vote)

b) vote for the opponent

c) vote the party line

(on edit, added the third option for logic fans)

My take is that if the Dems run Lieberman in 2004, as in California, enough Democrats will do a) or b) to lose Democrats the election.

So while the DNC/DLC will use this election as proof the country has moved to the right, in fact, it's a simple case of the base not liking the Democratic candidate.

Of course, the other lesson from the CA race might be that we need to run Julia Roberts as Democratic Candidate for President. No brainer who they'd vote for then. :eyes:

Another thing that helped was seeing a couple of Kennedys on stage with Schwarzenegger. They figured the alternative wouldn't be so bad.

So run someone they don't like, and if they think the alternative isn't so bad, prepare to lose.

A pretty simple point it is, at that.

They clearly didn't like Davis. The other candidate (the one the DLC didn't even want to offer up) didn't seem much better. Schwarzenegger (especially with the implied Kennedy backing) didn't seem horrible. So they stayed home or voted for the perceived lesser of two evils.

This is a BIG lesson for 2004. One that will likely be utterly lost on the big wigs in the party, who will interpret it as the opposite - a need to put a far right Democrat up there.

7. Or celebrities! Really the point is the DNC will misinterpret the results

of this election.

They will think the country has shifted to the right.

When actually, Californians didn't like Davis or Bustamonte, and figured A. S. wouldn't be so bad. So when an unappealing candidate is put forth, while some Dems will back the Dem candidate blindly, an awful lot will stay home or vote for the Republican (if he's less distasteful than the Dem candidate.)

My belief is most Dems find Lieberman distasteful, and a significant number would either stay home or vote for Bush.
