The distribution was surprising for one who does not live in CA.

Notice the switch in Imperial, Lake, and San Benito counties. Notice the relatively low turnout in Los Angeles and Santa Clara counties.

it's from a .gov site, probably the sec. of state's office.

Maps by definition show area, not population. If you want population, go to a table. I don't know how you could represent it on a map, unless you somehow distorted the county boundaries to reflect population. But if you did that the map would be a mess and it wouldn't look like California.

6. NOT surprising when you live here...

You have the southern, monies, conservative areas of CA an dthe rural, interior areas where Rush is King.

This has always been the make-up of the state - which is why I always laugh when I here folks called CA a "liberal" state.

The state is diverse in many ways. If you try to cast too many different categories of people as outsiders sooner or later they will band together despite their differences and stage a revolution.

Democratic leaders can ignore the message at their own peril.
