Americans for a 30 year "generational commitment" to "democratizing" the Middle East, which would involve not tens of billions, but hundreds of billions of dollars.
A month and a half later, here she is, in the Middle East, with inflamatory statements about how Iraq had never disarmed. At the same time Israel bombs the outskirts of Damaskas, not for retaliation against any recent bombings in Israel, but because Israel feels it should bomb whomever it feels is a threat to its country, using 9-11 as its excuse. Syria knows Israel's aggression is meant to get Syria to react aggressively. It goes to the UN instead.
Meanwhile, the U.S. bribes Turkish leaders with $15 billion just prior to Turkey agreeing to send 10,000 troops to Iraq, even though the Iraqis, and in particular, the Kurds, don't want them there. What could their purpose be? To protect the pipelines while freeing up US military for more "important" ventures?
Today a Syrian official said they would retaliate if Israel strikes again. I think that's exactly what Bush and Rummy want. What better excuse for invading another country than to help our only ally in the region. I'm sure Bush got on the phone to Sharon as soon as he heard that, to tell him to hit Syria again.
Iran has also been listed as a training ground for terrorists. They are surely aware that their sovereignty is soon to end, too. The stumbling block to Bush and Co. is the resistance in Iraq. It's likely the timetable envisioned is no longer possible. If Bush doesn't act soon, it will be too late to accomplish his goals before the election.
