This is sad: My teenage cousin (on the phone) told me that she and most of her friends think "conservatives are cool."

I asked why?

"Because liberals don't know how to have fun!"

Oh, they don't? How so?

"My friend Cathy is a liberal and we were having some beers in the woods, and she would pickup all the empties we threw on the ground. What a tree hugger!"

Well, maybe you shouldn't pollute, or DRINK!

"Whatever!"......(and she gave the phone to my aunt)

Not a happy day in my gene pool! :(

is that they feel responsible for cleaning up the messes left by conservatives.

Back during the Reagan years. Having a social conscience became passe, but remember "Greed is Good". My wife and I both have worked with teenagers for awhile and are just amazed by this mindset.

19. We We Absorbed, Too...No Excuse

I'm 48...with two teens (18 & 16)...and my wife and I take a very active part in their lives. We do a lot of listening to them and their friends...see how they interact to the world and among themselves.

Yep, there are a lot of "airheads"...all generations have them...mine did, too. It was very distressing to see, after we worked to get the 18 year old vote, that few of MY peers bothered to register (I fear some did in the 80's as Repugnicans). But, I grew up with the many great causes and principles of those years and they're still important to me today...so much to want to get more engaged in taking our country back and putting my money and "elbow grease" to do so.

But, I see a lot of kids today who are a lot sharper about the world than I was. These kids have learned early to filter the commercial hype from substace; to see an object for its true value rather than having it spoonfed to them by others.

I'm not surprised at the "Republicans Are Cool" stuff...most of these kids have yet to face the real world. They only see the fringes of the cruel world that comes once they have to fight for a job or try to raise a family. Republicans project materialism, fame, riches and power...and for kids who've been spoonfed non-stop self-gratification from birth, this is "cool stuff". Far better than cleaning up "your room".
