We should really try and do this. A debate between Freeper, and DUer!

Each side will nominate and vote for their champion. Then the two champions will square off in a neutral, moderated chat room, and duke it out issue by issue. All members of both boards can watch but can't participate, and the champions must agree to talking about the issues, and not bashing each other, each other's party, or candidates/politicians.

A real issues debate by the best and brightest from both sides. What do you think?

pit is best at writing a thoughtful piece - ther might be some others who also have anamazing command of facts.

And should it be a team thing? maybe 5 on a team feeding to the lead poster?

it's a great idea! Can't we have some good ideas explored without nay sayers coming out of the woodwork? It's at least fun to think about, huh? Sheesh, today is a bad enough day. I like the idea if only because it's helped pull me out of my doldrums. It would be like having Bev Harris debate *anyone* at Diebold.

15. well, the biggest problem is

freepers/republicans rarely actually answer questions or address points brought up.

i've done my share of debating on forums and they usually will just pick out pieces or ignore any hard facts, even it asked flat out to answer a question.

or they quote the wash times or faux news website..

I don't know if it is a strength or a weakness. We often analyse our weaknesses, debate when somebody on our side does wrong, but over there, it's often sycophantic loyalty to the messenger no matter the message. Arnold being a case in point.
