increased tolls in other states where they are facing deficits. Especially in NJ, Delaware, Pennsylvania? It would be a lot cheaper for folks to pay a couple of hundred dollars car tax rather than pay the average $980/year increase in tolls just to get to work in these areas. But, like everything else, it's how something is spun by the media. But I tell you, the working bloak in the states that I mentioned are paying through the nose with highway tolls and they happily think they received a tax cut because the Repugs told them so. When will people start thinking and figuring this sh*t out?

1. Car tax is OK with this CA resident!
It is a progressive tax. It is based on the value of your car. You drive a cheap old car (like my 1990 toyota) you pay maybe $50/year.

People who drive all those expnsive status symbols can and should pay more.

Odd the way the right always targets the progressive taxes. They get rid of the estate tax, lower top income tax brackets, want to get rid of the "car tax" (basically a luxury tax). Yet they have no probs with increasing fees, university tuition, and hiking the sales tax.

2. These idiots will never figure it out!...
All they want is for the services to be provided at someone elses expense. Repug's are basically CHEAP! Fire Dept's are fine, as long as they don't have to pay the Firefighters; PD's help to keep them safe, but pay for the officer, hell no!

It is a mind set. Services are fine, just don't make 'em pay for them. But, what if, I don't want another nuke built, or give Halliburton my tax $, do I have a voice.....Oh No, I'm just 'liberal'.

Yes I am Liberal and damn proud of it! For the freeps that are trolling the boards, listen, I don't have a problem with part of my SS $ or medicare $ going to support YOUR mom and dad, so sit down and shut up!

3. Car tax is a joke
It is simply a demonstration of how little attention people pay to things. When we had a budget surplus a few years ago, a law (passed by Wilson) allowed it to be reduced. I think there was even a small rebate. My understanding is that the same law requires the fee to be increased in the current economic situation.

Frankly, it has never been that much anyhow. A few hundred bucks for a newish vehicle - chump change for older cars. Hell, we have roads freaking everywhere that need to be maintained, air polution issues, and so on. It's got to be paid SOME HOW.

They wove that issue around like it was some big deal, and people responded to it. This is the same crowd that watch sitcoms and never read a (real) newspaper. These people demonstrated no analytical skills.

Truthfully, people are fed up (myself included) with CA's inability to EVER pass a budget on time, the schools have been declining for ages, and many other issues plague us. But I have ZERO expectation that AS and his Wilson crowd can solve them.

Camejo for Governor, as soon as possible...

Oh yeah - you mention bridge tolls? Try $5 per trip across the Golden Gate Bridge... Want to know how often I drop into SF for an evening dinner? Very very infrequently... I'd rather go to the East Bay, or stay in Marin...

4. The car tax covers 10% of the deficit.
Anyway,

Truthfully, people are fed up (myself included) with CA's inability to EVER pass a budget on time

It's called Prop. 13. You know, that thing that requires a 2/3 vote for a budget? If this weren't in place, budgets would be passed on time, taxes would fill in the holes and Davis would not have been recalled.

As for the Golden Gate Bridge toll, if you drive to the East Bay for dinner, you'll have to pay a toll to get back to Marin. You can't win unless you don't have to cross bridges to begin with.
