Could be a matter of be careful what you plot a coup for. Right now they have us to kick around and scapegoat. But if the voting machines and Cuban terrorists, etc. prove as successful at scrubbing our votes in the future as they are right now, this party will definitely become extinct. So then what happens.

Well, I predict for a while all the Puke leaders will behave just like pigs gone on a wild eating spree. And the unwashed rightwing masses will be elated they have destroyed their "enemy". They can accumulate all the guns they want and dictate morality and child bearing to the despised liberals. AND, they will have a silly illusion that their time at the feeding trough will soon come.

But the Boss Hogs will shortly set these vermin straight. They'll start stripping our environment of trees and wilderness, privatize social security and medicaid (heck maybe even water). The voucher system will kick in, with the ultimate goal of ending free public education. Mean vicious bastard corporations will steal their
employees pension funds blind and offer no health insurance whatsoever, etc. etc. And of course there will be no safety net offered by the government for either retirement of medical care. Safe and legal abortions will quickly become nonexistant, and many young girls and women will die as a result of botched ones.

And THEN what happens? There will be a huge citizen backlash as people slip into desperate poverty, and watch their children suffer both physically and educationally. Clinton and we panty waist Dems won't be around to blame anymore, so the public will have only one group of politicians on their hate list. At that point a more moderate faction of the Puke Party will splinter off in response to the crisis. These people won't be called Democrats but I betcha in a very short while they'll function pretty much the same as Dems do now. They will fill the void created by BFEE and it's vile spin offs, but won't have the baggage the mainstream rightwing media has lumped on us.

Guess I'm saying there will always be a Democratic Party, whether its called by that name or not. We're here to help those who can't fight the corporate machine, and we fill a void and a need whether people currently fully recognize that or not.

Fight from within the machine with a handful of sand? As I said before, I'm not suggestion that anyone jump ship, but what if with massive coordination, one day the 2nd party just disappeared?

Won't happen, but an interesting thing to kick around.

3. there will always be a dem party
because no one else represents the bulk of the
people like we do. Give what you will with the
lies now, we are the majority.

It is because of the lying and whore press that
things are the way they are now. if they would
do their job, this wouldn't be happening.

4. At the leadership level, I assert that it is already gone
They are paid by the same corporatists who run the RNC. They are a straw man party.

Fortunately there are a few Dems who are not controlled by them who are attempting to get the party back.

5. If the Democratic Party just up and disappeared...
then the country would be run by a facist regime that wasn't popularly elected. Big business would write the laws that regulate big business. The rich would be raiding the national wealth, and nobody would be fighting for the less fortunate.
That's what would happend IF the Democratic Party disappeared.

8. The Republican Party would fragment
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 07:06 PM by dolstein
The only thing that holds the Republican Party together is the danger of losing power to the Democratic Party. Without the Democratic Party, the divisions over social issues would bubble to the surface. Fiscal conservatives would probably begin to assert themselves once again, putting them into conflict with the "true believer" supply siders. The Christian Coalition would likely kick the remaining liberal Republcans out of the party.

9. Yes, that's the point I was making. The only thing that keeps moderate
Pukes in line is their unity with the extremists AGAINST Dems. If we don't exist, the Pukes will split apart ideologically, and one of those groups will de facto become the "new" Dem Party.

I'm not saying I want the Democratic Party to end. Personally I believe it will result in chaos and untold suffering for a long time to end. However, I am very, very worried about our future. Last night was the latest in a growing list of shocking, horrifying, and demoralizing election nights I have had to endure over the last three years. I'm trying to put things into a rational perspective if this trend keeps up.
