In a recent threat about the NDP, Layton was accues of being "Milquetoast"
Why?

He's been a city councillor for over 20 years and activist for the rights of the homeless.

Who cares if he behaves like Pierre Trudeau some times?

The guy has a goddamn pHD in poli-sci and was endored by Ed frickin-Broadbent...What else do you wnat? lol

Experience, charisma, education, and the right allies...

1. And he gets more media attention without a seat
in parliament than Audrey or Alexa ever got with theirs. Watching CBC News the past few months, he looks to be the opposition leader, not Stephen Harper. How much will that be worth next election?

The cameras seek him out. When was the last time that could be said of a federal NDP leader? Layton knows how to address a television audience. He's the most media-savvy leader of any party, and at election time, he's going to draw a helluva lot more support than just our traditional base.

And did I mention Montreal-born and fluently bilingual? I wouldn't be surprised by a modest Quebec breakthrough.

I don't think there's any doubt he'll lead us to our best showing since '88, and I think there's a damn good chance it could be our best ever - maybe even official opposition, and hold Martin to a minority.

2. hehe...
I think he'll pull off his own riding. :)

Dennis Mills is a bigot misusing the Trudeau Liberal moniker for personal gain.

There's a strong NDP base in Toronto-Danforth (NDP MPP Marily Churley won the 2003 provincial election by 16 points even though her campaign was regarded as the weakest), and homophobia does not play very well anywhere in Toronto...Especially the more progressive areas.

3. A times I like him...
But first strike...firing his longtime campaign manager coz he was involved in 'environmental' actions in the past (to appease Newfie fishers that probably won't vote NewDem anyhow)...again the NDP sending the wrong signal to the red 'greens'
Second strike...pimping corp welfare for Bomb and GM on the orders of Buzz

Other than that he has NO hope in hell of winning a seat in Southern Ontario
Martin and the Libs warchest will see to it--I mean if you were Martin would you want Layton in the House chewing the scenery on everything from the Left to Right Center or would you much rather play 'Liberal' to Stephen Harpy?--no brainer there--two rightwing guys arguing on tax cuts and busget cuts. ..

SO Layton will have to parachute into a 'safe' riding the NDP already hold...? Winnipeg, VanEast, maybe Regina...and that would be against his convention pledge...
ERGO...
Strike Three!! yer out
