Boortz says Feds and taxpayers must now bailout California!
So the right wing talking heads have already started yapping about a Fed bailout of California. Boortz said today that California is the nation's economic engine, bailing them out would benefit us all and if we do it for foreign countries, why not California. Amazing, these hypocrites will only help a state when they are in power and would screw a state when not in power (energy crisis). This is no longer politics, there must be laws against this, it is people's lives we are playing with.

I believe Bush would do this and anything in his power to curry favor with California voters in an attempt to win the state in 2K4. Arnold is probably stepping in at the lowest point for the CA economy, not sure how much worse it can get, come November next year, these two will do anything to make them both look like they saved California.

Watch how Bush does a 180 and tries to help California.

Sick f%$king bastards!

2. Won't happen
The practical folks in the White House, and I include Rove in this crowd, will realize that to do so would only invite other states to line up at the White House with their hands out. Furthermore, Republican governors of many Red states with budget problems will be pissed off if they see billions of taxpayer dollars poured into a state that is not exactly known as a supporter of this Administration.

5. Texas woud be one of those states.

All Texans, including repubs, would be very pissed if something like that happened.

3. Bailout CA? What About NY?
You know the place where they're going to have the next Repug convention. We also have budget deficits.

4. It's fantasy talk
There is no way the feds can bail out one state and not the others. There just aren't the votes for it. Boortz is high if this is really what he suggested. More pills than a Limbaugh.

Besides, the Junta doesn't ask for money unless they can steal it for themeselves.

8. I would
be reluctant to say what would or wouldn't happen at this point. Perhaps they will recover the billions stolen by Enron until after 2004 election and then take it back, "cook the books" if you will. The Repugs have a way of pushing their agendas while the Dems are in a stupor. Repugs backed Arnold so perhaps that is the plan to do something to bail them out to show their compassion and surely grateful Arnold the Republican plant will deliver those agreed upon eletoral votes wouldn't he?

6. Chile '73. Arnold is Pinochet. Bush is Nixon.
It was a velvet coup this time, but it was the same strategy.

Screw the state economically. Try to get the electorate to blame the democratically elected leader. Of course, Chile wouldn't give in, so they had a very bloody coup to teach the rest of the world a lesson about opposing American fascism.

Nonetheless, same strategy, same motivation, and probably the same results: further entrenchment of the oligarchy, wealth shifting up the ladder and out of the state to Ken Lay, ExxonMobil, Haliburton, etc. etc.

7. Hadn't thought of that

Good catch, it's a close fit. California is certainly a prize worthy of bold measures, with a gross state product that exceeds France, China, and Canada's GDP.

Edit: To be clear, GSP exceeds each of those countries' GDP, not collectively.

18. And teaches other states a lesson about standing up to private energy
also, if you want to understand the recall, it's probably worth reading The Pinochet Files (and I say this with great remorse for the democracy I see dying in America).

10. Ahem! bush already said to Ahnold,
When they kissed each others butt on the phone, that Bush would do what ever he can to help him and California.

What the hell do you all think that means? Just like we all suspected, turn on the money spigot and make the repugs look like mofo heores. Damn lying crooks.

17. And I bet you thought this all along!
These people don't even try to hide this shit. They have this conversation and he makes it public the very day after the election.

I always figured this would be the scenario. But that it would take place in the shadows.

Since he's in a chatty mood - why isn't Arnold talking about his groping escapades as he said he would?

11. no way in h*&l!!!!
This nation has too many financial problems to bail out a state with outrageously inflated home prices and numerous other structural problems including lack of investment in infrastructure like roads and public transit.

We (the other 49) can't afford it!!!!!

Calif will have to help itself.

There. A proper conservative rebuttal from this economic liberal who does believe in Clinton-style balanced budgets.

12. FYI, California is the nations biggest cash cow
with regard to tax revenue. We contribute about $50 billion more in taxes than we get back from the fed, annually. So the rest of you should just kiss our big fat ass.

16. That is a good point.
They could reportion the federal pie in such a way as to make it fairer for Colliefornia.

HOWEVER

I don't think that they would want to set such a dangerous precedent.

1. Even with Ahnuld in office, Colliefornia is still a Democratic Oasis with liberal social programs. Giving Colliefornia its fair share of the federal budget pie would enable Colliefornia to show that those liberal social programs work really well.

2. Red states depend on the uneven distribution of the federal budget pie. Once the pie is resliced, it will become very difficult to go back to the old way. The red states would suffer greatly and the Republicans as a result.

13. The is no mechanism for the federal government to bailout
Colliefornia. They might be able to steer a few federal contracts in their direction, but if they try to redistribute funds to Colliefornia, the rest of the states will revolt.
