ATLANTA -- Fear over the possible return of SARS is so great in the United States that even if the virus does not appear, it will probably cause disruptions in hospitals this winter, top U.S. health officials say.

CDC and other health officials say emergency rooms could be swamped with suspected cases of the disease.

"Whether the virus comes back this winter or not, we will be dealing with SARS," said Dr. James Hughes, director of the National Center for Infectious Diseases of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "When people start showing up with respiratory diseases, physicians will be thinking of SARS."

Health officials are worried that doctors with limited SARS experience easily could confuse early SARS symptoms with the flu. To clarify matters, the CDC is working on a plan for doctors and hospitals to prevent outbreaks.

What a bunch of bullshit. This article is perpetuating fear. Who here knew or thinks SARS is cyclical?

1. WOW IS THAT STUPID!
"Whether the virus comes back this winter or not, we will be dealing with SARS," said Dr. James Hughes, director of the National Center for Infectious Diseases of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "When people start showing up with respiratory diseases, physicians will be thinking of SARS."

!!!

Of course they will, especially after this campaign. They will think of SARS. Even if it's not SARS, because they've been told to think of SARS. By no less an authority than the CDC under Dr. James Hughes. Who will deplore the tautology!

2. deplore the tautology? From this administration, I applaud it!
At the very least, a tautology is self-affirmingly and obviously true. This is a welcome change from the non-sequiters and outright falsehoods that have become their trademark.

3. the Fear ought to be
about the fact that 44 million people in this country don't have health insurance!
I suspect more emergency rooms in the USA are going to be swamped with or without a SARS scare.

Take this Fear and turn it on the insurance companies and the conservatives that don't want universal health care for all?
