Or this means that there is a lull in the decimation of jobs in America? Don't worry people... Bush's tax cuts are working, they will work and Walmart is hiring.

Jobless Claims Lowest in Eight Months

By JEANNINE AVERSA
The Associated Press
Thursday, October 9, 2003; 9:38 AM

WASHINGTON - New claims for unemployment insurance fell last week to their lowest level in eight months, a hopeful sign that companies may be having a bit more faith in the staying power of the economic recovery and thus are easing the pace of layoffs.

The Labor Department reported Thursday that for the work week ending Oct. 4 new applications for jobless benefits dropped by a seasonally adjusted 23,000 to 382,000, the best showing since Feb. 8. That marked a better performance than analysts were forecasting. They were predicting claims would dip to 395,000 last week.

New claims hit a high this year of 459,000 in the middle of April. With claims last week dipping below 400,000, a level associated with a sluggish labor market. Economists are encouraged that the pace of firings may now be stabilizing.

The more stable, four-week moving average of new claims, which smoothes out weekly fluctuations, declined by 11,500 last week to 393,500, also the lowest level since Feb. 8.

3. In Sept. and Oct, UE Rates and Jobless Claims Always Dip
For one simple reason, people go back to school. People who can't get jobs go back to law school, business school, or get another undergrad degree. Businesses don't have to lay anyone off because people voluntarily leave.

8. Is There a Mention of New Hires?
If no new jobs are being created, the 382,000 goes straight to the total of unemployed.

10. All is well, now shut up and don't think for yourself....
Yeah, more and more people moving off of unemployment--well HELL YES when your benefits run out you do move off of unemployment.

Hell, there was article just the other day where Boeing is going to start laying off again. Oh yeah, its just wonderful as long as Chimpboy can get the whoring press to keep parroting that statement.

11. well DUH!... with an ever diminishing pool of labor to "lay-off"
there will be fewer and fewer unemployed to make any "new claims". And there was an incredible statistic I read yesterday- total pay is DOWN- meaning gross income is suffering from fewer workers taking home less money.

14. This week's fake numbers were very good!!
Last week the fake #s were very good too. This week's fake #s were quietly accompanied with the "news" that last week's # were actually 6,000 higher. Yep, that first week under 400,000 (399,000 was the # they floated) was actually NOT. Real # 405,000.

I wonder what this week's fake #s will turn out to really be...

Filthy liars.
