Just a bit of local news from Maryland. We, as you may know, are a largely Democratic state, but for some reason we ended up with a Repug governor (a temporary inconveninece, I'm sure), and his wife is apparently out to kill people.
Maryland first lady regrets Britney remark
http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/10/09/spears.maryland.reut/index.html'Kendel Ehrlich, wife of the state's Republican Gov. Robert Ehrlich, was criticizing what she views as the entertainment industry's negative influence on youth, during a domestic violence prevention conference last week in the city of Frederick.
"Really, if I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would," Ehrlich laughingly told the audience, accusing the 21-year-old Grammy Award-nominated singer of exaggerating the importance of sex for young girls.'
I can't say I connect Britney with artistic quality in any sense, but jeezus.
Of course, Mrs. Ehrlich didn't leave it at that, once a fuss was made about it. According to the article, a spokeswoman noted that "...the first lady has concerns about the negative influences that the entertainment industry can have on young children and teenagers. During a public appearance, she inadvertently used a figure of speech to express those concerns."
