What WON'T Jay Leno do for a ratings boost?
That Jay Leno will do anything for ratings is hardly a Hollywood secret. After all, his August 6 hosting of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s recall-candidacy shocker gave The Tonight Show a nice shove upwards in the overnight Nielsens. But his high-profile pop-up at the new California governor’s victory party suddenly puts Leno and his popularity in a precarious position when it comes to the politics of personality. So the question has to be asked: Is the late-night king becoming just another political pawn?

There he was, front and center, to introduce Schwarzenegger Tuesday evening. "Tonight is a testament of just how important one appearance on The Tonight Show can be, ladies and gentlemen," Leno self-congratulated.

CNN called it "Leno’s big political moment." Now, he’s a big political target.

1. Don't take it seriously
Leno is a guy who is friends with a lot of people, transcending, sometimes outright in spite of, political boundaries. Don't read too much into his appearance at the Schwarzenegger event; after all, half of the Kennedys were there too.

19. Believe it or not there are millions of people out there who do not
live and breathe politics. They already know that politicians are a joke. Leno has a right to go anywhere he wants to go. And sure, anyone has a right to not watch his show. I'm sure he is crying all the way to the bank. He cares about Mavis and his car collection. He works 364 days a year I believe. He and Miller have been friends for years. Seinfeld also. I don't know the political leanings of most of the people I know and I doubt that Jay Leno picks his buddies because of their party affiliation. Based on Jay Walking, most of the people out there don't know their own phone number. (Yes, I realize they edit and use only the actual air head answers.)

I care about those 3 hostages held by the FARC that are bound to end up dead in Colombia while the Colombian government is back in DC looking for more money.

U.S. Captives: Don't Try A Rescue

(AP) Three American defense contractors kidnapped by Colombian rebels pleaded in an interview for authorities to negotiate their release and not risk a rescue, saying they would likely die in the attempt.

The interview by a Colombian journalist was the first since the men were captured after crash-landing their plane in the jungle-covered mountains of southern Colombia in February.

“I don't want to die. I don't want anybody dying trying to get me out of here,” Keith Stansell, one of the captives, said in the interview, which was taped in July but will get its first public airing Wednesday when it is broadcast by the CBS program 60 Minutes II.

In the interview, Stansell, from Georgia, sits next to Thomas Howes and Marc Gonsalves, who are from Florida. They wear camouflage uniforms that match those of the armed rebels who surround them in what looks like a cramped wooden shed. The kidnapped men have no visible injuries.

4. Thanks for posting this
I'm sick of Leno's endless Clinton/Monica jokes. And I heard the joke comparing Arnold's grabbing ways to Clinton's womanizing in a commercial the other day. Also, how often does Leno have to have Dennis Miller on? Feh on him and his lousy show.

7. Jay Leno is not funny.
He plays to the lowest common denominator. Arnold is popular, therefore he likes Arnold. Bush was popular, therefore he didn't make as many jokes about Bush (or so I've heard, I don't watch the show). Clinton is an easy target, therefore he makes Clinton jokes.

I don't think he's political, in fact I think he's apolitical. He's just another media whore.

9. Isn't it strange when comedians cross the line
from left to right, they stop being funny. Truthfully, their jokes become crude, rude and not funny.

11. Leno has taken hits over this
The Washington Post had an article on what was Leno doing at Arnie's victory party?

Dave Letterman should make him the butt of jokes.

Hi Cat!!

13. You must've missed Letterman last night
Edited on Thu Oct-09-03 04:57 PM by Paragon
He showed tape of Leno half-heartedly applauding Gov. Grabass' speech...and then checking his watch.

Kimmel later showed the same clip on ABC. Dave mocked Jay by checking his own watch and saying "Ehhh, I gotta go write some more jokes...gotta go work on my cars," in Leno's high-pitched whine.
