Bring 'em on redux
You know, the more I think about the puerile popinjay's comment, "Bring 'em on!" ... and the fact that MORE soldiers have died in Iraq since he uttered those words ... the more one thought struck me.

The Iraqi freedom fighters HAVE been bringing it on ... and what's more, we don't seem to be killing, capturing, or stopping them. Their use of remote mines and long-range guerrilla tactics means by the time we get hit they are either not even there, or have already melted into the surroundings. Bush* was obviously itching for some faux-macho-cowboy showdown at the casbah ... unfortunately the freedom fighters are having none of it.

What a colossal failure this man is.

2. I have a friend who just returned from Iraq.
He had little or no access to the news, over there.
But he said this:

"My fellow Marines and I think it's just great that terrorists are flooding into Iraq. We rather kill them here, than at home."

He meant it.

6. I would expect a Marine to say that
And I respect their dedication. But Marines sure don't speak for the Nat'l Guard folks over there. Must be an interesting mix when they get together.

7. I think everybody should remember...
The military is BIG. Only about 10-15% of the troops actually do any fighting. The rest are support troops in Kuwait or other secure areas where they listen to radios or wash laundry (Marines included). I doubt if much of the "bring 'em on" talk originates in the infantry (in which I served for ten years). I always noticed that the rear echelon types sure are gung ho about war. They get the campaign medal but share none of the danger. I respect all the troops for serving but hold special respect for the fighters. I do have contempt for the gung ho remfs.
