MSNBC Discloses "Dean Operative" Forwarded Negative Clark Article
<...>

Stirling Newberry, a Clark supporter and a computer consultant in Lowell, Mass., who maintains the www.DraftClark.com Web site, posted an open letter Wednesday that said Clark’s candidacy was becoming “nothing more than the (Al) Gore campaign (of 2000) with a better candidate.”

MSNBC.com learned of the Newberry letter from an e-mail sent out Wednesday by an operative in the Dean campaign

And people were worried about CLARK going negative and pulling dirty tricks?

And who is behind the negative push-polls on Clark in NH, I wonder?

The Newberry letter was posted on a public website and it was also posted and discussed in DU over the weekend. Any DUer could have alerted MSNBC to the internal squabbles in the Clark campaign. This means nothing and it has no connection to the Dean campaign anymore than Saddam had WMD.

This not a courtroom where one puts their client in the best light, and the opposing party in the worst light possible. Your evidence is speculative and based on hearsay.

Is this all the Clark campaign has to offer America?

He used to be involved with "draftclark.com" but he's proven himself to be an egotistical whiner.

I cannot believe the whore media picked up on this one person's rant. They must be really desperate to slime Clark.

4. So?
People post negative articles about candidates here on DU all the time. Someone in Dean's campaign was smarter and tipped off the MSNBC about discontent in Clark's campaign, instead of bringing it here.

Wired published a story about this same kind of discontent two weeks ago. Do you suppose someone in Dean's campaign tipped them off, too?

Somehow, I suspect you'll be complaining about it, though.

This looks like nothing more than a Dean person sending an existing story to MSNBC.

It isn't like it was a leak or a lie, this was nothing but a forwarded story that was out for like two weeks.

But I guess you guys need something to attack Dean as Clark is screwing his own supporters for the special interests.

Was the letter posted or not?

How does pointing out a high profile groups discontent with a campaign it helped create equal slime? At least, unlike most of the attacks against Dean, this was not false or misleading information...

Welcome to the campaign....

19. The Main Sites Were "DraftWesleyClark" and "DraftClark2004"
"DraftClark" was a blip of a site, with blog entries getting less than ten entries, until this latest stunt gave the writer his 15 minutes of fame.

Read the entry! It is an arrogant, egotistical, "do what I want, poopie-heads, or else I'm taking my ball and going home, wah!" type of rant, and he even THREATENS the Clark campaign.

It's one guy. That's all, one guy. There is no organization behind him, just himself and his ego.

43. Clark Hasn't Pissed Off His Grassroots Supporters
I blame Dean's campaign for sending uncorroborated material with the intention of being malicious.

If that's the tone he wants, I'm sure that's the tone he'll get. I just don't want to hear any whining when people go after Dean, too, not only as they have been, but as they will be.

I'm also pissed at the media, for taking the word of one blogger with a previously anemic following as gospel, without any independent investigation. But I suppose I shouldn't be surprised about that.

Was it someone they KNEW was part of the campaign? Was it a overzealous DUer? Was it one of Newberry's pals getting more negative press for Clark so he could air his gripes? I just have to laugh when I think that somone on DU took the time to post this article.. as though it is some indictment of Dean. This Dean vs. Clark deathmatch on DU is just so juvenile. And I'll tell you.. it's the Clark people that generally have their panties in a bunch around here.. lighten up.. jeez!

I did think it was funny to read of the "200 grassroots volunteers" Clark's campaign spokesperson spoke of. 200? That's not a whole lotta volunteers. I think they misspoke there. They dismissed this person, who felt he was part of getting Clark to run, as some disgruntled quack. Sad.

30. So let me get this straight:

The owner of an unofficial Clark website posts a self-written "open letter' on the front page of his website, pointing out a perceived weakness in his chosen candidates campaign, by saying it is becoming nothing more than "the Gore campaign with a better candidate" - not exactly a dramtically negative claim- and an un-named "campaign operative" allegedly from a rival campaign, who could be a volunteer from anywhere, points out the letter to a media source, and the scandal is the guy who pointed out the letter to MSNBC?

Slow news day?

48. John Hlinko is still involved... and he was a grassrootser.
He authored tonight's debate blog that's up on the official Clark campaign website now. Hlinko started the DraftWesleyClark.com website, and along with his partner was the guy who got most of the early press coverage of the draft movement.

http://blog.clark04.com/

Unfortunately, Sterling Newberry of DraftClark.com continues to post his whinings about not being chosen for a high position in the campaign on his highly visible website. It's divisive, it's counterproductive, and it's pretty childish. It's awfully clear to me from his posts why he didn't receive an important role in the continuing campaign.

The whole mess is sad, but I'd rather blame Newberry's whinings on Newberry, and not the Dean camp.
