Fascists who CAN’T make the trains run on time…
I just got done watching the excellent Frontline program on Iraq. So many talented people wanted to stop this unnecessary war. So many wanted to plan for a reasonable post-war strategy if it went forward anyway. There were ignored.

For the last several weeks I’ve been trying to come up with a meme to describe the emerging battle between the Rove/NeoCons and the remnants of the Old Republic represented by the likes of Joe Wilson.

Here’s the problem: The United States was a democracy. The “best and brightest” are used to operating in a structured, yet free environment where experience and competence carries the day. But now, a small, well-funded, ruthless minority has taken power. They are unlikely to give up that power peacefully. However, all their energy is being used to maintain power. They will not listen to those who know what they are doing in any area because “making the trains run on time” is not seen as useful to maintaining power.

In short, instead of running the government, these are people who are purely interested in destroying political rivals. Perhaps fascist anarchists would be the most accurate label.

2. Yeah, I know. It's just that their particular form of fascism...
is leading to anarchy because they seem to not give a shit about actually making anything work. I think the current Nobel winner in economics said that, all in all, "looters" was the best description of their economic policy.

3. Dark Age Feudalism

Rich aristocrats above the law who don't care about anything but maintaining their power. They keep the serfs in line by making them paranoid and ignorant, and worshipful of their feudal lords because they know that the American Dream is dead - the only way to make it now in King George II's holy land is through cronyism.

4. I have yet to come up with a good reason why we
are in Iraq. I don't believe any thinking American, no matter what their politics are, can either. Even if the WMD's had been found and a link to Al Queda proved and even if Saddam had in fact plans to make nukes, there is not one single reason why we should have put one American soldier on Iraqi soil until the United Nations gave us the go ahead. By that time, they would have proved whether or not there was truly a risk leaving Iraq alone as it was or if a change in regime was needed.
