3. I must admit...
...that's not the first time someone suggested that to me. Sadly, I'm not much of a "wordsmith", I have difficult time coming up with those rip roaring zingers that make for interesting reading. Not only that, I'm also really f***ing lazy.

All the dumbass angry idiots that I didn't care for then are in control now, and if the personalities of those people I went to high school with are any indication, we're in a whole heap of trouble.

6. There was actually an essay to that effect
in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune a few months ago. Something about the country being run by the "bully frat boys" or some other such term, the guys who used to steal lunch money from the retarded kids.

8. The other day . . .
The idea came to me that the common, unexpressed attitude of the right could be summed up as: Let's get those damn smart kids. So, I guess I agree with you, speaking as a former, taunted, high school smart kid. :-)

9. that's funny, I was just thinking that earlier today
actually while watching footage of Kobe Bryant playing basketball while they were discussing his case and realizing that he's so fucking popular he could probably run for governor. If we had any black states.

Then I thought "what a weird thought" and I realized it was just like high school.

Who used to say that the "real world" is just like high school, but with money? Was it Johnny Carson?

19. Paraphrasing Frank Zappa:
Maturity is realizing that the rest of your life will be just like junior high school.

10. That's a great way of putting it.
I also think of it as being run by every idiot, overprivileged son of the boss that I ever had to work either with or for.

Edited on Thu Oct-09-03 11:49 PM by devilgrrl
whether it's running a fast food joint, middle management at a corporation or positions in government, aren't necessarily the best or brightest?

For example the CEO of my company... this person has got to be the biggest moron on earth. It's indescribable but I'm sure many of you know the types I speak of. You just scratch your head wondering how the hell they got to where they are.

Doesn't that just fucking kill you?

13. Literally true for me, because I went to high school with ....Peggy Noonan
same class. Put the moves on my boyfriend. Tried to push her way into our group, "The Resistance"--she was never in it, but put it under her yearbook picture, which resides at my site in an article about Pegala.

17. I really did go to high school
with repuke senator George Allen (R - for racist) - now of Virginia, then of California.

I've told this story on DU many times, but in case you missed it know that George was a BBOC - Big Bigot on Campus - who spraypainted racist graffiti on the school walls and was caught and forced to publically apologize.

A side note -- also in our class (1970) was Daulton Lee - the "snowman" of -The Falcon and The Snowman book and movie.
He was arrested for espionage and sentenced to life, but was parolled several years ago. And as bad as he was, I think George Allen is worse - a brainless Bush thug.

20. I do not remember hating anyone in high school
and I was the valedictorian. Hardly the most popular guy in school, but not seriously picked on either. Hell, when your senior year is mostly college-prep classes, you do not see the major jerks all that much. Some of the freshman (who were in another school) were kinda disrespectful, but they were never important enough to hate.
Cheryl Ladd was in my class of 1970, but fortunately I graduated ten years later. I certainly did not hate her when I was a junior and she was on Charlie's Angels.

are making millions on The Man Show and Survivor.

The '90s was the era of nerd power. Now we're experiencing the backlash.

23. It's true! And everything we were taught as kids no longer applies!
Be honest, play fair, work hard and you'll get ahead, do what's right for the group, be kind, don't be selfish, don't lie or cheat or steal, etc. etc.

All these basic ideals have been flushed by the right wing and *. Up is down, and down is up now.

25. That's the saddest part of all--I have a 6 year old and I wonder
if I'm doing him a disservice by insisting he take responsibility, be honest, look beyond himself . . .

(sigh) I will keep insisting he be a good citizen, but I wonder if I'm dooming him to failure.

So true, devilgrrl, so damn true. Weren't those the kids who were supposed to tank after high school?
