Silly Story about a Good Friend
I was in a bit of a "downer" mood yesterday for no real apparent reason. Anyway, a good friend of mine asked me for the favor of helping to pick up his wife's car (another very good friend!) from a dealership about an hour away, and I agreed. (His wife had a colonoscopy yesterday, and I watched the kids for them earlier in the day while it was being done; her car had died last week while she was driving from a long distance visit with her father -- totally non-relevent detail...and she's doing great, by the way!)

In an effort to cheer me up, my Very Non-Political Friend gently teased me about being happy to talk politics with me (which is one step away from the torture of fabric shopping for him -- he's a really nice guy!), and my fellow political junkies will understand that sadly, this DID cheer me up!

So, we're in the car driving along, with "Princess Maria" in the back (his three year old daughter) on the way to pick up the now repaired car, and I cheerily ask my friend which party he wants me to bash in our political talk. He gets a snarky grin, and says "The WHIGS."

I was so impressed! This guy is NOT political, and barely pays attention to anything going on, and here he is, informed enough about politics to know about the White House Iraqi Group. I'm all like, "WOW! I didn't know you knew about them! I'm so impressed! The White House Iraqi Group -- I didn't know you knew enough to even know they existed!"

At which point it comes out that he's talking about the "Whig Party" from the eighteenth century.

Doh!

I think I've been paying just a little bit TOO MUCH attention to this stuff.....

:)

2. No, your attention is well and appropriately focused
It is your good friend who has not been paying attention....but maybe you made him think!
