I'm reading the story and it's a great story of how she is fighting for human rights in Iran and bringing democracy to the country.
But I have this strong nagging feeling inside of me that her record with human rights was not the reason she won the prize. I think they particularly selected this woman because they could send a message to the world:
Iran does not need outside interference in order to topple the repressive fundamentalist regime. They have people like Edabi who are working hard within their country. So Bush & Blair - don't go screwing up things and invading their country.
(note: I know it's Iranian - but the word doesn't fit in the title)

1. John Paul II or Chirac would have been a better message. |

Pretzal boy will interpret this as agreement on his inclusion of Iran in his Axis of Evil. Surprises me quite a bit, since I thought the nobel comittee would have been more even handed in balancing between support of radical islam and its opponents. It would be more like them to choose Arafat or Abu Mazen had he remained in his position. Bush will actually LIKE this choice since it feeds his campaign of Fear about Iran and its intentions.

year. Unfortunately, it is way too subtle for Mr. see things only in black and white.
Besides, he could care less. Peace isn't his thing. Now if they ever give a Nobel for destruction, he will surely win.

Iran does not need 'outside interference' to topple their bad guys but it certainly needs the dosh to finance such a strategy if it is to be successful and long-term. If this is what it takes to put the spotlight on the situation, then so be it.
The only other real choice for the prize would have been Hans Blix (as someone already posted on the DU earlier this week) but I guess Bush would have had an apoplectic fit and nuked Oslo in retalliation if they had gone ahead with that one....
