FDR said this in 1944

quote -

"We have accepted, so to speak, a second bill of rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all, regardless of station, race or creed. Among these are:

The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation.
The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living.
The right of every business man, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad.
The right of every family to a decent home.
The right to adequate medical care and the opporunity to achieve and enjoy good health.
The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident and unemployment.
The right to a good education.

- Franklin Delano Roosevelt: Message to Congress, January 11, 1944

2. And the Repubs are doing everything they can....
to dismantle FDRs legacy. All they want is a cheap labor economy where we are all lving, divided on the economic edge.

Thanks for posting this reminder of the contemporary roots of our Party.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt: My favorite Democratic president (sorry Bill). He was not only a masterful politician and a great leader, but he demonstrated the ability of government to produce real change in the lives of millions of Americans.

And, he demonstrated that the handicapped can achieve just as much as, if not more than, their fully-abled peers. I think his disability made him a better man and a better President; it helped him to better appreciate a country that was disabled by the Great Depression.

It's a shame he felt the need to hide his disability during his lifetime; such was the political climate of the time (even now, I fear). It's a problem in our country: "A handicapped person can't be President!" FDR's twelve years as President give the lie to that statement.

Personally, I'll take a physically disabled President over a mentally, morally, or emotionally disabled President any day.
