Chomsky & Nader in G. W. Bush country
last night at UTPB. (University Texas area school)

Chomsky ask the large audience how many thought that the Iraqi war was a lie & a fraud. He told 'em to close their eyes and raise their hand. Guess what? Half of the crowd raised their hand. Chomsky said if that is true junior is finished. The crowd cheered.

This is junior's stomping ground where he got all his values, and was supported %100 in 2000.

3. One audience member stood at one end of the room, the rest at the other
It was to show the ratio of political difference Nader has made to the amount of money he has made. :)

7. Have anything that's not thirty-seven years old?
Come on--he has the right message, but the best results he seems to be able to get is to make himself money. Not to mention refusing to allow his workers to unionize and investing in corporations like Walmart that treat their workers terribly. Nader's in it for Nader.

11. Hey, he has a better message than most, I'll agree
Getting that message out and making himself rich isn't all bad--I just wish he would commit himself more to the message. He gets more respect than almost any national stage politician for that message, but in terms of hypocrisy he doesn't do much better.

14. when the great satan RN
came to speak in benefit for WMNF-FM 88.5 ( www.wmnf.org )new building fund, in addition to reducing his fee, he wrote check for 1/2 of that amount back to the station, helping the station raise several thousand dollars that night.

RN is getting the message out to those that are receptive to it, his critics just want to pretend it isn't so.

15. He's not the great satan. Calm yourself down.
But don't tell me Ralph isn't in this to make money. If not, he's awfully lucky, because that's what he's had the most success at. His message is fine, but pretending he's some white knight crusader insults everyone's intelligence. I'm glad he gave half of his *fee* back. Talk to me when he lets his workers form unions, and stops investing in companies that abuse their workers. Those are two simple things he can do all by himself, and whenever he wants. What reason does he have to do these things, so apparently at odds with his stated ideology? Money, maybe?

8. I love Chomsky!
He's not a god, he's wrong sometiems like every other human out there. He just happens to be RIGHT more frequently than most humans out there! :D

I love him, hehe. I even love his smug style. :) He's not exactly the most humble or open debater I've ever heard, but I gotta admit, I love it. :D It's nice to have someone who so frequently crushes the other guy. :)

5. Good news, but the half figure is pretty pathetic
Edited on Fri Oct-10-03 04:10 PM by jpgray
Speaking of good news, every hand in that auditorium should have been raised, and the reason that wasn't the case: television news. It's there to be found in print, but it isn't on any screen I've seen with any regularity.

18. That's great that they are taking the message out there
But I would say those who choose to go to a Chomsky/Nader event ought to be well-enough informed to know the reasons for war were false. The Bush fans likely stayed far away.

19. Say, here's an idea.
How about finding out these different things that people like Chomsky and Nader do, and for each one say "still not good enough."

That'll help!

12. Dean has a lot of support in TX
As conservative as TX can be, they'll call a spade a spade. And don't forget, they are living with the mess W. left behind. Who better to know what a crappy leader he is?

13. I saw Chomsky on Wednesday

It was in front of a full house at Fermi Lab in Batavia IL, not more then a mile from Dennis Hasterts office. They held it in an auditorium that holds about 800. Normally they hod these events in a room that allows only 150. The subject was 9-11 and it's aftermath. The audience reaction is about what you saw.

The talk is available from the Fermi web site.
