Sure, this thread will probably get locked because it may contain profanity, but after seeing all these threads out here "joking" about Rush Limbaugh's drug addiction, I felt this needed to be said.
DRUG ADDICTION, like any other mental illness, IS NOT FUNNY.
Yeah, Rush has made statements about drug use/abuse in the past, but the man has a disease, for f*ck's sake. It's not some laughing matter, like chocking on a pretzel because you're too damn stupid to know how to chew your food properly. It's a flipping DISEASE which will eventually KILL HIM and bring heartache to his innocent family, if left untreated.
Sure, Rush is an asshat, but what kind of moral ground does that put US on if we want him killed? How does that make us better than he is, or what he is about?
Am I taking this a little personally? Maybe. I've had friends AND family members who have drug problems. I had a good fried who was addicted to heroin (which is an opiate, like Oxycontin), and the addiction and its detox are not funny, not in the least. I've had mental issues in my past which left me unable to work, and now take a combination of three drugs just to keep the wolves at bay-- and even then it's STILL hard to get out of bed every morning.
Making fun of an addict, no matter how reprehensible s/he may be, is on par with making fun of a cancer patient, or a schizophrenic, or somebody who's mentally retarded. It's sick, it's wrong, and certainly NOT something I would expect from people who claim to be members of a "compassionate" political party.
</end rant>
