Stephenson: Asians are killing the LPGA
Will there be any serious backlash against this racist???????????

http://www.msnbc.com/news/978712.asp?0cv=CB20&cp1=1#BODY

<KAHUKU, Hawaii, Oct. 10 — Jan Stephenson, who became the first woman to play on the Champions Tour on Friday, said Asians are “killing” the LPGA Tour and their numbers should be limited.>

< “This is probably going to get me in trouble, but the Asians are killing our tour. Absolutely killing it,” she told the magazine. “Their lack of emotion, their refusal to speak English when they can speak English. They rarely speak.>

<Four of the top nine players on the LPGA money list this year are of Asian descent including Se Ri Pak, Grace Park, Hee-Won Han and Candie Kung.>

1. My God
what a complete fool, and racist to boot. She will get hosed you can count on it. Sadly, many of her critics will be sexists who are itching to get the woman who played against the men but she is in deep trouble and deservedly so.

5. are you sure you're not confusing her with Annika Sorenstam?
Jan Stephenson was a player on the Tour years ago who was known primarily for her looks.

14. It's the same Jan Stephenson, from Australia
She was a hottie first, then a legit top player for many years before her career was severely curtailed when she was mugged at the parking lot of the Miami Arena while attending a Heat game. The guy tried to take her ring and she suffered a bad injury to a finger.

13. That is sad.
Some people in the football (soccer) world particularly in Europe think that there are too many Africans playing the game, but that is just some racist crap. They are just insecure when new things appear in their sport, profession, or what have you. Sadly, race is a part of that.

2. That's pretty harsh...
and racist. Gee whiz, I'm almost frightened to hear what she thinks of Asian Lesbians that are in LPGA. Where does this woman get off? As if she has any personality. :puke:

3. This is why Asians need an Asian Jesse Jackson
If she had said this about blacks she'd be sponsorless in 5 minutes.

12. This is something the Rainbow Coalition should be on anyhow.
No progressive people should allow this slur to go unanswered. This is as bad as Rush criticizing McNabb.

4. Golf? well good for the Asians if they can get it off the TV

It's high time somebody did.
Keep it in Scotland where it belongs, there with the mists. and the haggis.

8. If he/she is so concerned, maybe they should sponsor a scholarshp for
white women...I don't really care. It reminds me of that woman from "Field of Dreams" (Baseball anyone?) and she was complaining about all the Mongoloids in Iowa...what an idiot.

9. Will Latvians kill LaCrosse? And if not, why not?

Maybe Micronesia will agree to kill badminton, if we ask nicely.

10. Latvians?
No. They have white skin so they won't kill the sport. Ask Stephenson. :eyes:

11. Well, I'm not a Jan Stephenson fan anymore
I went to one LPGA event this year and Grace Park could not have been more amiable, chatting with several of us in her gallery while the group ahead was waiting for a lengthy ruling.

Se Ri Pak has made great strides in learning English, although it did take her many years after gaining status as a top player. Pak spoke at length in English while being interviewed during the British Open this year. Annika Sorenstam defeated her on the final hole.

Actually, there are many more up and coming Asians than this article suggests, along with Swedish players.

The real problem is there have been so few American female golfers to emerge in recent years. Kelli Keuhne had a major endorsement contract and commercial as soon as she turned pro with a Tiger-like amatuer resume, but she has done almost nothing. The American woman who won the US Open last year, Hillary Lunke, probably will never win another LPGA event. Julie Inkster is the best American female, and she's 43 or thereabouts.

Jan Stephenson was a poster babe when I was in high school. Luckily I tossed out the poster long ago.
