Poll question: Eisenhower quote
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."

President Dwight D. Eisenhower
April 16, 1953

2. Agree always but even Ike would tell you
sometimes you just cant avoid it. His idea was to promote peace through international cooperation, deterrance and positive incentive. That's where Wes picked up much of his philosophy.

Who had the quote about if men were angels there would be no armies?

3. exactly
It isn't that it is never appropriate to invest in guns, but to recognize the true cost.

Ike - the Nostradamus of the 1950's.

6. Dwight "Nostradamus" Eisenhower -- I like it!
It's kind of strange, you know, my mom who grew up in the '40s and '50s used to say that Ike wasn't the brightest bulb on the Xmas tree. Well, it appears that he was, at the very least, a LIT bulb. If only there were a few more republicans like him...

7. Conservatives vs. Neocons
What's surprising is that guys like Ike and even Barry Goldwater would be shocked to see what is considered 'conservative' these days.

I'll bet neocons would consider these guys to be pretty liberal if they were still around.

Ike was obviously on to something.
