Turn on CSpan for US policy toward Cuba...she says Bush is pandering.

1. I think we posted almost simultaneously.
She said his statement was purely designed to get the Cuban vote in Florida and made her laugh.

2. I just want to make comments about what Bush said in his Cuban
speech:

"Elections in Cuba are still a sham." (What about Florida in 2000 for the United States?)
"Opposition groups still organize and meet at their own peril." (What about the Patriot Act in the United States?)
"Private economic activity is still strangled." (What about our current economic downturn?)
"Non-government trade unions are still oppressed and suppressed." (What about Bush Administration's attitude towards unions in the United States?)
"Property rights are still ignored." (These are the only rights I see Bush protecting in the US--for the rich.)

"And most goods and services produced in Cuba are still reserved for the political elites." (Here many are reserved for the economically enabled... a number becoming smaller and smaller every day).

Having been to Cuba many times, including during the 1997-98 elections there, I can say with confidence that all of the above points about Cuba are not true.

Americans, by and large, know nothing about Cuba except anti Castro propaganda, and that's the reason the Bushies want to keep us Americans from seeing the place with our own eyes.

7. Bush is lying through his teeth and DUers

ought to know that by now especially considering the thousands of Latest Breaking News Articles that have been posted on DU for a couple of years now plus the thousands of links to further background information that have been posted by a dedicated few trying to get y'all to WAKE UP before it's too late. Instead Dems let Homeland Security walk all over their freedom to travel without an iota of opposition. Naw, that's not silent complicity with Bush's Cuba policy is it?

3. She's Really Gone Light On The WhistleAss
Very objective...and it's always amazing to hear the wingnuts who seem to know everything about "freedom" while they cheer on the Patriot Act and this regime.

5. So long as this is the best DUhers can do on this issue

the 53 Republicans who voted last month for your freedom to travel to Cuba despite Bush's threatened veto are looking a lot more progressive than most of the Dems* around here at this stage of the endgame. What a shame for crying out loud!
