Calling BBV activists: Weird e-mail from Bev Harris' publisher
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 12:26 PM by E_Zapata
(Or it says it is from david at plan 9 publishing).

Just got a very weird email ...not an html....but very little text and it was like 11K in size.

It simply says:

From: Hacked by: sh0k3

Please all users visit http://_________________

- Hacked by: sh0k3 Staff

=========================================================
You're receiving this email because you're a registered user of . We
hope that this email didn't disturbed you and in some manner contributes to improve our services.

-------------------Okay,

1. if this was from David, surely he would have put some sort of explanation in there.

2. I deleted the name of the site it says to visit........simply because it's probably a lead to some site that is bound to completely trash our computers OR secretly install spyware.

3. Notice the disclaimer blurb at the bottom of the e-mail. They leave blank: 'because you are a registered user of ___________'

4. I am not on the email list for plan9; I was on the list for bbv.com

5. Luckily, there was no attachment to the email (that I could see)

AND

6. IF this is from david at plan 9 via bev or any other BBV activist.......don't send people cryptic friggin emails that seem to have more bytes than is reasonable for a few sentences and that have some very cryptic stuff in it.....that tells me to go to a website with the word 'hate' in it!

We have to know beyond any doubt that the emails we get are REAL.............geeze

Why do I feel like I am going to turn my computer off today and it will never start again? I just have a real bad feeling about this.......

15. THE E-MAIL WAS HACKED. So was the site.
There is only one company that wants us off the web this badly.

18. Using information from the hackers source code....
can this be traced and reported to some legal entity? Aren't what they are doing illegal?

3. I would think that
David could manage a gramatically correct message. This sounds like english is a second language:

We hope that this email didn't disturbed you and in some manner contributes to improve our services.

of course, spammers can do all kinds of stuff with headers. at my office we constantly get mail from apparently inside email accounts but clearly are spam and/or viruses.

6. What the heck was that?
Just wondering. Looked like a guy talking to himself in his own forum. And mad. How did BBV yank his chain? Or was it mad cow?

9. It's just the sort of chest-thumping wankery
all script kiddies do. They're always belittling each other. Public recognition of their supreme hacking skillz is what each of them crave. It's just a teenaged dick-measuring sport where they don't have to do something as terrifying as actually whipping out their dicks.

16. This is not script kiddies. Do not minimize this --
Understand something, gang -- if it is script kiddies, someone had them do it. the .com site was pulled offline just a week ago due to a fake spam letter sent under our name. Now this. The .ORG site has been pulled twice, the first time for a "spam" that was a press release sent to an opt-in list (I'm sure one of our "friends" opted in and then filed Spamcop -- and Tiger Tech, the ISP, refused to disclose who did the complaint so I had to dump a list of 450 opt-ins!!!) Then the .org site got pulled down with a bullshit DMCA letter that took the historic step of claiming copyright to a two-deep link.

This is not something to be minimized. These people are afraid.

What I do know is that I need to keep the activist list out of the blackboxvoting.com e-mail server, since that is such a target. All the volunteers activists e-mails appear to have been lost.

Vancouver. Hong Kong -- if anyone finds evidence that this traces back there, let me know immediately.

11. KICK
to give notice to others who will receive this email.

that link to shok03's site where he is foaming at the mouth and claims he owns "bbv.com" is creepy. But at this point, the bbv.com people should have closed the door to hijackings.

25. Be Careful
I'm sympathetic to this being looked at, but we sure don't want your making these kind of public accusations as it takes away from your "high road" if it was not Diebold. Credibility is already a question mark for BBV as it's accused of being run by "conspiracy theorists.". Why put yourself at such a blatant legal risk? We need you to continue - not to be in court wasting money defending yourself because you couldn't hold your tongue. Or, fingers, as it were.

I think. And I'm very sorry ANY were accessible, and will take steps to use a different route next time.
