FOX Racism in your face right now - Boycott!
Although it's nearly impossible to assemble an all-lilly white, good ole boy 10-person Baseball Playoff broadcasting team, FOX has done just that. NOT ONE Black or Latino, even putting an Ann Coulter impersonator on the anchor desk. Who but FOX & Rupert Murdoch would throw such a month-long racist insult in the face of millions of Americans? Tune in right now, or for the 2nd game at 7;30 EST to witness this travesty.

During the 2000 electiontheft I deleted the 3 FOX channels and MSNBC from my TV remote, sending emails to them explaining that I would not watch ANYTHING on their flagrantly biased and spinning channels. For almost 3 years that promise was held, until my Red Sox & Cubs roots forced me to tune in FOX last week. I've emailed my disgust with FOX again and retreated to the radio for coverage.

Every day here at DU I read so many threads about "What can we do against these Repukes/corporations/media conglomerates?" or "My vote doesn't even count anymore." My question to you: What do you think would happen if the majority of principled Americans not only boycotted the offending parties but let them know exactly why they are doing so? Easy answer - they'd either change their policies/actions QUICKLY or go out of business. A few other examples:

-If the majority of Americans who truly care about the environment never purchased a vehicle with less than 26 mpg (excepting those who need a strong truck or van), the affected Auto industry divisions would immediately focus on mileage efficiency (no laws needed) or die.

-If enough principled citizens boycotted all companies which have foreign sweatshop, racist, or homophobic hiring or workplace practices, and told those companies why they were doing so, such companies would be forced to either quickly reform those injustices or die.

Best of all, such actions cost you nothing - it's simply a matter of standing and living on your principles, choosing with whom you do business, and alerting the boycott targets of your intentions and reasons. Your political vote may not count in these times, but I guarantee that the power of the pocketbook is stronger than ever. Do you really think that a media giant such as FOX would not be brought to its knees if everyone who objects to their policies & programming NEVER tuned in and let the bastards know exactly why?

2. What a single voice can do
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 05:11 PM by Bundbuster
Footnote - Before the Iraq invasion was launched, an American Foreign Embassy official resigned in protest, writing a most compelling letter on his reasons. The letter and story were front-page NY Times, but the Denver Post hadn't run the story for 4 days. I called the editor to express my outrage, and 2 days later the Diplomat's letter & story appeared on page 3, Denver Post. Sometimes it only takes ONE voice.

4. Problem
The problem is that most americans are lazy stupid idiots. Even if they are democrats, and know that republicans are the greatest evil on earth, they don't have time or the outlet to inform them what they should buy or boycott.

What we need is an anti-fox TV and radio station. Just one ultra-liberal TV and radio station to debrainwash the lazy dems and pseudo-repubs, to debunk the right myths presented every day, and to show the wild spin on these no-spin shows.

Just for reference has everyone seen the article suggesting that 80% of fox viewers answer incorrectly on basic questions involving Iraq?

5. Yes - lazy stupid idiots
But even a principled lazy stupid idiot can see from his couch the negative impact that biased media giants like FOX or Clear Channel have on their country, and thus NEVER turn it on and hit the assholes with one email. Even an idiot who gives a damn about pollution can refuse to buy gas-guzzlers. I'm not saying that everyone should or would know every instance of corporate abuse (all advertisers on Savage Nation for example), but alot of them are right in your face, hard to ignore, and easy to boycott.

6. Mighty broad brush you got there
"The problem is that most Americans are lazy, stupid idiots." Isn't there a thread on that very subject around here somewhere? What I think most Americans are, is a product of the Corporate enviroment in which they live. Also, who is in charge of informing the "lazy, stupid idiots" on what they should buy or boycott, just so I know?

11. Who's in charge of informing?
Would a person of intelligence & principle need to be "informed" that DR. Laura or Rush were hate-spewing reactionary elitist bigots who fully deserved to be boycotted and taken off the air? Would the average American need to be informed that Dixie Chicks-bashing Clear Channel is a right-wingnut mega-corporate adjunct to the BushCo Junta? Does the average American need further info. on the environmental consequences of a 10 mpg Hummers, and the need to exercise your right of choice against them? You're right that we are a product of the Corporate environment in which we live, but at some point people with a semblance of conscience must, at the least, exercise their free and easy right to withhold their financial support of those corporations which are obviously damaging our society and planet.

3. I'm no fan of Faux BUT..
is it absolutely necessary to have a member of every minority group on every program to avoid the RACIST label?

7. Every minority group on EVERY program?
I'm talking about an entire month of coverage of a major sport which has over 60% BLACK & LATIN players. I can guarantee you that FOX is the ONLY network which would have the audacity and bigotry to field a broadcast team of 10 all-white, often incompetent nobody selections. They are catering to and fostering the resentful backlash Joe 6-pack white guy, and no doubt proud of it. If you've watched other networks' coverage of baseball, basketball, and football, you'd know that this could only happen on FOX.

8. Perhaps the leagues should have affirmative action for *white* players.
Y'know, restrict the amount of blacks in the league to 10%, the hispanics to 10%, and give the rest to the whites and asians.

Admit you are imagining racism where it doesn't exist.

10. buster just said 60% of the players were black and hispanic.
Therefore, there is not a proportionate amount of white players in the league compared to the population, and racism exists.

Reductio ad absurdum.

12. Hey Poskonig -
I hear on the radio that the Cubs are winning 6-0!! A World Series in Wrigley Field!

With your "proportionate amount" affirmitive action, would you really want to watch an 80% white NBA? Pulleeeze.

20. Sadly...
My grandpa would support that...

He admires Paige and Robinson but believes that there's too many Blacks in American-dominated pro sports.

14. Affirmative Action for White Guys
You can bet that if the on-air talent for this show were ALL BLACK, people would scream from the rooftops about how out of whack this was. Can you imagine if, for example, This Week replaced George Stephanopoulous with Michel Martin and each week she had nothing but African American commentators and interviewers? Suddenly, people would be HOWLING for affirmative action for white guys.

Did anyone notice that during the Iraq war, there were no black military people doing on-air commentary? Did anyone find that strange, given the number of African Americans in the military?

Just a few thoughts.

17. It ain't about MLB's popularity - it's about racist policies
Sure, baseball isn't the "National Pastime" anymore, so let's say baseball sucks. Let's say you're a big football fan. How would you feel about "Fair and balanced" if you watched 2 NFL games on FOX with 10 broadcasters, all White? Would you see the bigoted network policies and care then? Your comment is like someone (a Liberal?) saying in 1955 that because they don't ride buses they'll never bitch that Blacks are forced to sit in the back of the bus. A reactionary, divisive policy practiced beyond your sight is still wrong and destructive.

18. So if it was integrated, you'd watch it?
A rainbow-colored Fox would be a stinking pile of shit, just the same, and by getting people of color on, you'd be inciting that many mor epeople of color to sell out to the most despicable propaganda vehicle this country's seen.

As far as I'm concerned, the race-baiting, hatemongering, lie-spewing far-right brainwash cahnnel should be ALL-WHITE. Makes "what it is" all that much more obvious to the casual observer.

Besides, how many brothers would be able to sit through that nightmare "Fox and Friends" without thottling those unctious freaks. Even Peerless Dothan/Pierre Delacroix from "Bamboozled" would go off within a week. I know I would.

No amount of money is worth that.

Don't watch Fox period. Ever.

19. Right on Gringo - no, I wouldn't watch
"A stinking pile of shit" indeed. Of course you're right - anyone of conscience should NEVER watch any FOX outlet, no matter what rainbow sellouts they might bring on. After 3 years of obeying this rule, as well as never watching any of BushCo's TV liefests anywhere (other than the 2 seconds it takes to grab the remote if taken by surprise), I tried to watch my childhood Red Sox team, and softspot Cubs win a World Series. Unfortunately, my only TV option was FOX, which proved unbearable even with the volume off. I should have known better.

The hypocrisy I'm addressing is the crowd of "Liberals" who regularly tune in FOX & MSNBC and then describe in gory daily detail what is spewed there. I know - "know thine enemy"...how well do you have to know thine enemy, people?? Do you have to listen to Pat Robertson once a weeek to know that he's Satan on earth? Your regular "checking in" is reflected in the all-powerful ratings, which then drive the advertisers and sheeple. No major media company or national production/retail corporation can survive SOLELY on the participation of the 25% dittoheads. They would wither away without complicit support from those other 75% who claim to have principles.

No Gringo, I wouldn't watch as long as FOX is the stinking pile of shit that it will always be under the Murdoch/Reichstag wing. Thanks for the eloquent reminder.

21. Get a life
Jeeze. No blacks on the baseball commentary team so they're racist? Now if they consciously made sure they didn't hire negros then yeah, it's racism. Should we make sure one of each major ethnic group is represented in every news cast? Maybe get an eskimo in there in case we offend Eskimo viewers?

Are all my local news shows racist because there's they're all white, too?

The scourge of political correctness.
