Many Soldiers, Same Letter
Newspapers Around US Get Identical Missives from Iraq

by Ledyard King, Gannett News Service

WASHINGTON -- Letters from hometown soldiers describing their successes rebuilding Iraq have been appearing in newspapers across the country as U.S. public opinion on the mission sours.

And all the letters are the same.

1. Unbelievable.
It's just a continuation of their "NOT ENOUGH POSITIVE NEWS FROM IRAQ!" propaganda/spin campaign. When the media starts exposing a small portion of the truth, the Repubs simply cannot take it and organize to undemocratically HIDE that truth. Bush has had it easy for over two years, and now when the tide turns toward realistic reporting, a broad campaign is created to get the pro-Republican side of the media back in gear. Sickening.

And how hilarious it was that so much of the media, after the Repubs started crying about how negative the news was, got right into it--such as Paula Zahn immediately showing feel-good stories about Iraq. Media-whorism in full effect!

2. Standard GOP AstroTurf. They don't have grassroots so they
have to use AstroTurf.

AstroTurf = Fake Letters to the Editor using a letter form written by the GOP or their supporters and signed by a local individual and sent in as if it were his/her own.
