I know that it gets tossed around alot....
But if Bush won in 2004 IF IF IF

Who would leave the country for real?
IMO it is cowardice, and not having the courage of your convictions to stay and try to make the United States a better place...

not trying to start a flamefest..

just my humble take..and looking for others views beit the same or opposing..

1. Only a fool would stay in a fascist dictatorship
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 09:43 PM by seventhson
if one can remove oneself to safety and oppose it.

BUT if there are any remnants of democracy left we need to fight for it here.

Leaving, depending on the conditions, may be the only viable alternative for many of us and it is not dishonorable.

Why try to paddle a sinking ship when one can run for help effectively.

The real question is NOT whether you stay on this soil or not. It is whether you stay and pay taxes which will be used to kill innocents abroad (making you complicit) or whether you fight the fascists wherever you are by the most effective means.

As a pacifist I say we need organization and Satyagraha HERE.

But fighting from abroad may actually work better and be more effective.

So I wish the holier than thou types would either lead the path to satyagraha and prison or quit criticizing those who choose to fight wherever they are here or abroad

organize. Vote, and take people out to vote. do not let Bush win in 2004. please.

But just in case he does, the weather in Mexico is great year-round and the people are friendly and welcoming.

7. ?
To be honest, as things stand, I do not see bush losing in 04. No, I'm not a Republican. Looking at the candidates, I'm not sure any of them can win. Hope for Clark in some ways(as far as being able to win), but most of the others realistically can't. As far as leaving the country, give me a break. Who were those actors who said the same thing if he won the first time and then silence after bush 2 did win? Who said somthing worth having is worth fighting for? I am a realist, and being one understand that my views and beliefs may not be heard all of the time, but persistance is the key. We need to be more excepting of more views or our party is done for. Even the R's will now start acting more mainstream, at least on social issues. They are going to beat us with our own strengths.

8. Being an ex-pat must be difficult
But people have done it. After WWI, folks did it. I imagine it's got to be pretty difficult to separate from your culture and start in another place. Just moving to a different state can bring spiritual hardhsips.

So I'm not thinking so much about the politics of the issue. But rather the day to day nuts and bolts of living.

Hubby and I lived in this new place for many years. It became home and bliss. But when my mom and dad came to live with us, I was moved to tears the day I heard my dad playing his accordian out in the yard. Catching me by surprise, I was transported back to New York and my spiritual core. It took my family moving here to finally make Colorado my home.
