A sort of grandfather to the neo-cons, Senator Joe McCarthy.
Henry 'Scoop Jackson' is definatly one of the fathers of the neo-cons, so I got to wondering what were the influences on the way he thought.
and I found this, but it is not a definate because Robert Kennedy gets drafted onto the committee after this (he is a assistant counsel here), also McCarthy appears to campaigned against Jackson when Jackson was running to become a Senator just before this, so it is possible as a junior senator Jackson is there to make up the numbers and possibly to give McCarthy a hard time:
