Advocate Article: The anti-gay industry
Here is an article on Bush's lame ass way of pandering to his base.

http://www.advocate.com/html/stories/900/900_antigay.asp

He's trying to get election votes by marginalizing another group. What a prick.

working poor, " Call them lazy idiots" day.

5. Marriage Protection Week
Dear Mr. "President,"
I'm writing to express my concerns over your proclamation of Marriage Protection Week. I'm a bit mystified, however, since you fail to say what the enemy of marriage is?

I assume, of course, you will be shortly issuing an Executive Order banning divorces and re-marriages during Marriage Protection Week...after all, this practice, in my opinion, is far more damaging to the instituion of marriage than allowing two people of the same gender who truly love one another to get married.

So don't call it "marriage" if you don't want to...call it a Civil Union. No church is forced to recognize any Civil Union as a marriage if it doesn't want to. The practice would merely confer onto ALL Americans rights granted ONLY to heterosexuals.

OK, OK...I know...a homosexual couple can go to a lawyer, have papers drawn up, and get most of those rights...estate, medical surrogate, hospital visitation, right of survivorship for ownership of property...the average lawyer might charge the couple oh, say, maybe $2,000 for the necessary paperwork...rights that are conferred unto heterosexual couples for a $35 marriage license. Explain to me how this is equal treatment under the LAW?

The LAW...which you have sworn to uphold and defend? I know...I know, demagoguery works better for yu than upholding the law, but just for once, I'd like to see you fulfill your sacred obligation to your office, which you took on January 21, 2001.

So, to put all this in perspective, may I ask you to consider the following?

Being as we know divorce destoys families (especially the children,) which is more damaging to the sanctity of the institution of marriage...and which is more damaging to the sacred institution of family? A - Allowing one man to divorce and remarry five different times...or B - Allowing a homosexual couple who truly loves one another to marry ONCE?

In closing, I will again suggest that, since you are so concerned about protecting marriage from enemies unnamed, that you will be shortly issuing an Executive Order banning divorces and remarriages during this Marriage Protection Week. I'll be looking for that most decisive action from you. After all, decisive action is what your Administration is so good at, right?

Sincerely NOT yours,
Texas Democrat

-ANYONE But Bush in 2004!!

6. Thank you...
A cogent post. Actually they just want our money. How many times does one have to hear about the death of a gay man, and suddenly, the family vultures descend?

7. You're Welcome!
Yeah...the same "family vultures" who turned their backs in disgust on their gay relative and threw them away like yesterday's newspaper when they were alive, just because they couldn't deal with the SHAME of having a gay relative....now that the gay man is dead, they sure have no problem going after the money and property he left behind, do they?
Bastards!!

God, I'm so glad Mom accepts me as the daughter I am...
(I am a male-to-female transsexual)
Most of my family has turned it's back on me...but my Mom hasn't. And here's the great part...my mom is a born-again Christian!!

So is my cousin...the other strong supporter in my family that I have.

My brother :puke: , on the other hand...complete waste of skin. I have made sure to specifically exclude him in my will. Let his Southern Baptist judgemental ass go with nothing!

Me, Travis County...Him, Gregg County! And may he STAY there, too! Texas the only state big enuff for both of us!!

8. Geeze, don't you get it yet?
After years of sweetly asking GOPers to define their family values and being met with a stunned silence when they realize they don't KNOW what those values are, I've come to the following conclusion:

GOP family values: men are kings and women and children are their property, to be discarded at will whenever they get shopworn or annoying, to be replaced with newer, nicer property. Discarded women and children are to be in the same category as gays, nonpersons, unworthy of any civil dignity or human right.

That's it in a nutshell, folks. That's why their disdain of all social spending is what it is, and why they feel so unutterably superior to everybody else.

13. DAMN!!! Wish I'd posted this!!
Right on! Spot on this guy!!! Props to this guy!!

I have long said "family values" and "Christian morals" were, for the RW, code words for bigotry, prejudice, and hatred.

Hey...speaking of Christians for a sec...

What do you think woulda happened to any of US...had we made the comment Pat Robertson did about the State Department?

Wanna bet we'd answer a knock on the door in the middle of the night, and find ourselves magically transported to a military brig and labelled an "enemy combatant?"

So why not Robertson?

Well, of course...because he votes REPUKE!!!

See, that's also why Flush Limpballs will get no jail time. It's Florida, Jeb's Governor...he will get the Noelle Bush special treatment. Anyone seeing the pattern yet?

If ya wanna get away with crime in this country, be known as a REPUKE voter. If you're a Democrat...you'd better watch your ass!

9. Marriage has survived for thousands of years; but now it needs
protection? If it can't survive two people who love each other dearly, who happen to be the same gender, then it doesn't need protection, it needs a miracle.

I'm a happily married, straight Christian woman who is not threatened in the least by gay comiitted unions. I recently celebrated the union of two longtime male friends. I can't think of a single reason to be threatened.

Of course, I don't buy the rhetoric of the Zealot Right Wing, either.

16. Marriage has survived polygamy, a zillion religions, ownership of spouse,
convenience, political marriages, pre-arrangement.....but gay marriage is going to destroy it according to the bigots.

What's even more incredible is we are supposed to believe that marriage actually recognizes national boundaries. So if say, Canada allows gay marriage, but the US doesn't, marriage will magically survive.

Of course some countries have allowed gay marriages for the better part of a decade and I have yet to hear any reports of the entire population of heterosexuals dissolving their marriages and/or becoming homosexual and/or stopped having kids and/or stopped getting married.

Still haven't heard any reports of hellfire and brimstone being rained down on any of those countries either so I guess the Gods and/or Goddesses of Earth, Wind, and Fire (and possibly also Kool and the Gang) are okay with it too or at least neutral.

17. This can't be true.
I have it on the best of "authority" from certain DU'ers in another thread that gay people have made all this wonderful "progress" lately. Why, I can no longer be arrested for having sex in my own house and I can turn on the TV and watch Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and Will and Grace. The idea being that nothing says equality like non-threatening stereotypical portrayals of gay men on the television.

18. The sadest part of all this
It is now five years after Matt's death and we have literally nothing to show for it. No hate crime laws in WY or the US. No new civil rights laws outside of NY and CA, states where they would have passed anyway. The 1 in 4 homosexuals who refused to vote for Gore should be doing a heck of a lot of soul searching today. I doubt they will but they should. Gays and lesbians are in most ways worse off now than in 98. And if Bush is elected in 04 that will be solidified for years to come.
