1. Very interesting,
CMB did better than Al. I, also, like Al. I have some concerns over integrity, i.e., Tawana Brawley and the FBI sting, etc. However, he speaks very well for the dems, and he's damn amusing and straight talking.

10. no doubt lurking freepers
besides, if you aren't voting democrat you are voting for the opposition. What difference does it make if it is bush or the communist/socialist or green party candidate?

5. I love Al Sharpton
Especially his line on how he's the conservative one, because he's the one trying to conserve affirmative action, civil rights, etc. Positively brilliant.

22. I'm really curious ...
The Rev. has been tons of fun in the debates, but I don't understand how he can be taken seriously as a candidate given his history. So I'm really curious whether you know about the bad stuff and discount it, or whether you don't know about it, or whether you aren't really taking him seriously as a candidate but just enjoy him as a speaker? He is a good speaker, gotta admit.

6. I'm sorry the guy is a slimeball
from Tawana Brawley to Crown Heights to his endorsements
of right-wing Republicans the guy is a disgrace. I would vote for
him over Bush but that doesn't mean he isn't a repulsive
race-hustling piece of shit.

straight across the board.

He's a good speaker, but he's a fraud.

20. The young folks may not remember this stuff.

Also, people who don't live in NYC may not appreciate a lot of Sharpton's history. For instance, as I recall, Amadou Diallo's mother stopped having anything to do with him because she realized he was using her. Way to go, Al!

13. Thinking out of the box. Al would be great.
Sharpton/Braun or vice/versa is the ideal ticket for me. All of my ideals are covered and re-inforced. How realistic, how achievable, how capable of stopping the facsism that grips our policy is the question. My ideal ticket to save the universe is lost in the effort to restrict the damage. DAMN. The choices SUCK, doncha know?

23. Yeah, Al was really great in Crown Heights
when he helped incite race war in New York, and over the Tewana Brawley incident -- I don't think he ever did pay the damages to people he slimed that he was ordered to pay -- and when he butted into the Amadou Diallo matter so shameless that Mr. Diallo's mother stopped having anything to do with him -- yeah, he's a champ!

On the other hand, I really do like Carol Mosely Braun and I think it's a shame more people don't take her seriously.

15. I love sharpton, I hope he comes to PA to speak sometime!
I'd go there in a heart beat. He'd make an excellent president no matter what some may say (yes lacking in much experience) but has the passion to learn and be involved. More than I can say for this current moron in office.

17. In the unlikely event Sharpton became the nominee
Edited on Mon Oct-13-03 06:23 AM by IndianaGreen
the Dems would lose the election big time as the more sordid details of the Tawana Brawley case are beaten into the nation's consciousness by the 24/7 media. Sharpton's actions were racism at its worse.

I will not vote for an unrepentant Sharpton!

Winner in Brawley suit says victory is bittersweet
July 14, 1998
Web posted at: 12:20 a.m. EDT (0420 GMT)

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York (CNN) -- Former prosecutor Steven Pagones said Monday that his victory over the Rev. Al Sharpton and two other advisers to Tawana Brawley in his racially charged, $395 million lawsuit was bittersweet.

Speaking outside the Dutchess County Courthouse after the jury's decision, Pagones said Sharpton, Alton Maddox Jr. and C. Vernon Mason had "hurt a lot of people."

The jury found Sharpton liable for making seven defamatory statements about Pagones, Maddox for two and Mason for one. Pagones, a former assistant county prosecutor, is white; the defendants are black.

"They hurt race relations," Pagones said. "We have enough problems in society. We don't need people like Mason and Maddox and Sharpton screaming out false allegations and creating further hatred."

A jury of four whites and two blacks ruled that Sharpton, Maddox and Mason defamed Pagones in accusing him of raping black teen-ager Tawana Brawley in 1987.

24. I don't think Sharpton ever paid those damages.

Maybe he did and I missed the story, but last I heard he claimed he had NO ASSETS AT ALL and therefore could not pay damages. A judge questioned him about the obviously expensive suit he was wearing, and Al said he didn't own the suit. The owner of the suit was somebody else who let Al wear it.
