Latest Shrub outrage - Rare animals could be hunted
WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is proposing far-reaching changes to conservation
policies that would allow hunters, circuses and the pet industry to kill, capture and import
animals on the brink of extinction in other countries.

Giving Americans access to endangered animals, officials said, would both feed the gigantic
U.S. demand for live animals, skins, parts and trophies, and generate profits that would allow
poor nations to pay for conservation of the remaining animals and their habitats.

This and other proposals that pursue conservation through trade would, for example, open
the door for American trophy hunters to kill the endangered straight-horned markhor in
Pakistan; license the pet industry to import the blue fronted Amazon parrot from Argentina;
permit the capture of endangered Asian elephants for U.S. circuses and zoos; and partially
resume the international trade in African ivory. No U.S. endangered species would be
affected.

Conservation groups counter that killing or capturing even a few animals is hardly the best
way to protect endangered species.

Enough is enough already! These bastards won't stop until they've raped and pillaged the whole world! Oct. 17 is the end of the public comment period for this so please let your voice be heard.

3. I wonder if it's a diversion?
Keep us preoccupied while they conduct other enterprises abroad at our expense. I'm suspicious. This one seems to me like their anti abortion stand. I don't think the R Party elite really wants abortion made illegal. They only want to fight about it forever. If the law was changed, the pictures of aboritons would be replaced by ones of back alley abortions. I believe they want to keep us expending our energies fighting about it while they pander to their religious sector.

5. Bush Sr. and Swartzkoft (sp?)
Edited on Sun Oct-12-03 09:56 PM by Jen6
have been trying to overturn this policy for quite a while now. Seeems there's a Carlyle group Big Game club that wants to bring their trophy heads back from Africa (more rich white hunters with tiny penises, no doubt). They are part of the Safari club, which donated over a quarter mil to Bush* in 2000. This is being done for personal reasons-I don't think it's meant as a distraction.

6. How much worse can it get?
There is at least one horrific surprise a day. Of course why should it surprise me that a villain capable of killing tens of thousands of innocent human beings for fun and profit would blink an eye at the extinction of endangered animals for same? :argh:

8. Gee didn't someone go around saying in 2000
that there was no difference in the enviromental policies of Bush and Gore? I know I heard that somewhere. Hey Nader can you see it now?

11. One more example of how these people are ingrates...
This is another one of the admin's, "worst ideas of the century".

This is just one more nail in the coffin for these cretins. They just can't have an IQ of more than 60 between the lot of them. This would cause an international uproar.

Time to type out another e-mail. These luantics are so far from reality that it is actually starting to send a little fear into these old bones. It would not surprise me one bit, if they tossed a nuke soon. Idiots!!!

16. To what purpose?
What "gigantic U.S. demand" are they pandering to this time? Is Bunnypants running out of crushed rhino-horn virility powder? It's just a gratuitous slap in the face of environmentalists. This petty little administration wearies me.

18. I was horrified
when I heard this yesterday. As an EXTREME animal lover(I have about 25 of my own)I cant believe this is even considered by an American pResident. He is redefining our country's values in so many BAD ways.I had to cry this morning after reading the news. I'm also very upset about whats going on in Texas.

19. The only gigantic demand to be satisfied
is that of the egos of a very few rich old bastards who enjoy killing things bigger than themselves. What is this, like 1900?! Partially resume the trade in African ivory? I can't even believe that. Just the other day I was watching a show about elephants that said how many there are left. Of course I can't remember the number now that I need to, but it was shockingly small. A few thousand.

21. Bush
enjoys killing as long as his target can't shoot back.

Here's a snip from an "award" he accepted while TX governor:

"The Safari Club International, a trophy hunting industry organization, announced that Governor Bush would receive the organization's *Governor of the Year* award at a ceremony in Reno, NV on February 5th.
The Safari Club International promotes hunting the world's rarest wildlife and has a series of prominent members charged with illegal or unethical hunting conduct. To be a highly decorated member of the Safari Club International, a trophy hunter has to kill more than 322 different species of animals, including African elephants, rhinos, leopards, Nile crocodiles and other threatened species."

22. do you have a link?
I would like to hear the reason why they decided the shrub was "governor of the year".

It makes sense that an organization formed around the killing of endangered, defenseless animals would praise the "execution governor". Still, I'd be interested in knowing the specifics.

25. Oh c'mon!
You know there is a small fringe element of this club that wants to hunt for a human being. There's got to be. I saw a movie about that once--dude was promised some unbelievable sum of money to go out in the forest and let people try to kill him.

Now, these same people could try to join the Marines and pray for war, but they'd never get past the "why do you want to join the Marine Corps" and "how wide is the yellow streak running down the center of your back" questions.

Okay, so we can't legally kill someone, goes the thinking, but there's this Bush boy running Texas who kills all the people he wants. Bonus!
