I was just on C-Span as a Bush supporter
I read a news story about how our soldiers are chopping down all Iraq's ancient olive orchards.

Then the announcer asked me how this news story tied into my support of Bush, which kind of stumped me, so I said that this showed the Iraqi's "how tough we were..."

46. The moderator asked him that because they more than
likely knew he wasn't a real * supporter. They ask little questions like that to try and out you. If they didn't do that on both sides, the callers would complain. I think that is the reason they divide the lines that way now. When Clinton was president it was divided by party. A lot of d's and r's were calling on both lines claiming to be affiliated with that party, but the r's do it more often though.

50. oh..what's the difference?!
If anyone here actually thinks C-Span's call-in show is influential, or broadly popular or that it -- in any makes a difference -- then you're being naive on this point. What, with the Leftist pretendig to be wingers and vice-versa -- poor C-Span remains in the muddled-middle; a carnival show's funhouse of distorted mirrors. All 2,000 of America's political hardcore junies watch it. C-Span is a grat public servce but it's average ratings ARE TOO LOW TO BE MEASURED!

Why would pretend to be their political adversary? Do you have the right stuff to be yourself and expess your own true-blue views?

Nothing more pathetic than some winger thinking he's fooling the audience into "thinking" he's liberal. Alas, the reverse is also true. JUST BE YOURSELF. And start hitting television programs with better demographics!

The lady who was in the hospital on oxygen who said if she would have
had $131.60(?) for her pills she wouldn't had to go into the hospital and that we should use our money for our Seniors and medicare instead of sending it to Iraq? She was so Sweet..she had a little catch in her throat from being so sad. :-(

That's usually the tripe that they come up with. What price do you put on FREEDOM?!?!?!?!

read it. The right wing web sites are ripping the media for reporting it and saying it's just a way to make the thief look bad. There have been rumors of above average #'s of suicides for awhile but that was the first real article I had seen on it. Also investigation supposedly going on over all the soldiers dying from blood clots.

It also helps a lot if you have a redial and flash button, but the last time I called, when the question was 'Should Ralph Nader run in 04'? I got through on a phone without it in about ten tries. I said Not no but HELL NO.

47. no.i won't shut up
no matter how nicely you ask.

we have a tv in the waiting room and i keep it on cspan whenever the live call-in segments are on. it's a great way to sneak a little info in on the local repubs...a captive audience so to speak.

contrary to popular opinion, they aren't all dolts. this would have been an excellant issue for the local farmer types but the clumsy attempt to pretend would just give them an excuse to ignore it.

an honest reporting would have stuck in their heads. this approach gives them a perfect excuse to dismiss it. it's like this is some sort of game of "gotcha" and it's silly and unproductive.

33. I heard you as well
My reaction to your comments (before I knew it was a DU'er): I thought the revelation of the article's contents was excellent. When asked for the source, you replied: "the Internet." It might have given the article a bit more credibility had you cited a legitimate, specific source.

When you were asked as to your reaction to the article, you said words to the effect that they now know we are a strong country because we are willing to implement this type of punishment upon those in Iraq who refuse to give us the information we want. The point had been made that nothing was found in that geographical area, nothing of interest to the soldiers. The inference to that finding is that the military enacted the punishment undeservedly upon the keepers of the valuable orchards. Why? Simply because they could...

It's your choice as to how to present valuable information to C-Span. As a lover of this network, I would like to say perhaps you did succeed in making another supporter of Bush* look simply stupid, but my preference would have been for you to have augmented the fact that those who oppose Bush* are well read citizens who do their homework to unearth the truth and to arrive at their logical conclusions the man is ruthless.

While Pubs do pose as Dems and say how embarrassed they are at positions the Democratic party takes, this simply serves to denigrate the integrity of the overall influx of calls. As a supporter of C-Span, I regret we are adding to this denigration by utilizing the same tactics. I don't mean to criticise you because I do feel your approach is simply your shot to call; I just ask you to think about the question, "do we really want to behave as they do?" Isn't the fact we don't one of the things that separates us from them?

Yes, I do. We can't turn the other cheek forever. If we ignore Karl Rove he won't just go away.

I didn't hear your call to C-Span about the olive trees. Maybe you should do less moralising and become more active. What about the morality of leaving the olive grove story unheard?

If you read the breaking news at DU, surely you know about the olive trees. Why didn't you do your moral duty and call that story in to C-Span on the 'anti-bush' line if it is all so easy and moral.

41. Bravo! You are correct; ignoring Rove is not a good tactic
Letting a schoolyard bully go unchallanged never is.

Get in their face and show the other kids that you have a backbone. If they are looking for a leader to follow, show by example that following a strong bully is not the only alternative!

And getting the information out there is critical if we ever hope to stop the insanity which is passing for policy these days. Most citizens will see that ruining food sources is not the way to win hearts and minds. Most people will begin to connect the dots if we provide enough dots for them to follow along with.

49. Pretty judgmental, aren't you?
You make a lot of false assumptions. I haven't turned the other cheek since I was 16 years old. I have been aware of Karl Rove since 1988 and written and spoken often against his maneuvers.

I have called C-Span many times but have never gotten on. I obviously wasn't moralizing in my post since I chose only to differentiate between the consequences of a positive approach versus the ramifications of exploring a deceptive one. I made it very clear in my post I thought the story should get out and how each of us chooses to get our thoughts on these important topics out into the mainstream is a personal choice.

I am active on many fronts in other venues in which I use my actual name. This has been true for several years. I am not ashamed to let people know where I stand. Why are you?

As far as fighting back, I left the Republican party in 1998 when I could no longer allow my name to be associated with the dirty tricks and outright underhanded maneuvers of that party. Obviously, I would hate to see the party to which I defected become like that party. There are many ways to fight, and defaulting to the low road is not my personal choice. If it's yours, so be it.
