Will Bush Hire Saddam to Run Iraq?

It turns out that running Iraq isn't so easy after all. The Americans are easily as brutal as Saddam, and we're not getting anything out of the deal. If the Bush team were to recruit a despot to restore order, who would be more qualified than Saddam himself?

He's experienced, he's non-partisan, and let's face it, he was damn good at maintaining order. His methods were considered crude, but that was before we found how stubborn these Iraqis can get. Detention without trial? It's not so bad. Holding people incommunicado? It's less trouble. Covert assassinations? It works!

America needs local talent so we can optimize our "investment" in Iraq. Saddam's the guy! Nobody else has his track record, his joie de vivre, his all around sense of purpose. Fire Bremer, hire Saddam.

So the power didn't work? Few libraries? I tell ya, I think you are on to something. The only real issue that remains is what to do with Halliburton. They can't survive without the sweetheart contracts in Iraq.

is the fact that they lost nearly a billion dollars in their last fiscal year.

This is nothing more than a government-funded bailout of the company.

4. Saddam's Unemployment Just Ran Out

Saddam lost his job the first day of the invasion, and the six-month mark just passed. He exhausted the first three months of his unemployment benefits, and the last check from the three-month extension came last Tuesday. Saddam wasn't included in the settlement on Uday and Qusay, so he's looking for work, and the Americans are hiring!

For years Saddam hasn't been anything but a brutal dictator, but he's trying to pay his own way. He's circulating resumes, getting a few nibbles. But like many of us, Saddam's starting to get a little nervous about his future. You can't blame a guy for looking out for himself, ya know what I mean?
