CNN is reporting breaking news that the Bush Administration may be closing in on Saddam, and has credible reports of sightings near Tikrit and Baghdad.

"Credible" and "The Bush Administration" do not belong in the same room, let alone the same sentence. I think we are about to get a little October booster shot for Bush's flagging poll numbers. Will the Wal Mart Nation buy it one more time?

Who disappeared in 1973, shortly before Saddam became well known on the international stage. Lucan was born in 1934; Saddam claims to have been born in 1937, but Lucan was notoriously vain, so might have shaved a few years off.
Lucan was wanted for the murder of his childrens' nanny (he is thought to have been trying to kill his wife). He has never been found.

Too many Americans are just ignorant (not necessarily stupid) and prefer to stay that way. See recent California recall election for evidence of same. No rational populace could contain 50% of voting population who would approve of Herr Bush - but the US does.

7. Sure, some will probably buy it...

...but, so what? Shrub is shooting his wad too early. If they kill Saddam (they won't catch him alive) Shrub will get a temporary bump in the polls. But just like when Uday and Qusay were killed the bump will be temporary. Unfortunatly the unrest in Iraq will continue, and people will still die. But the mis-administration will no longer be able to say "Saddam is directing some of it" or "The resistance wants Saddam back in power", or other similar figleafs.

The bump will be temporary. The poll numbers will soon continue their downward slide, and Shrub won't have the "we got Saddam" story to use when he needs a bump in the future.

If Hussein is really caught (he has a lot of doubles, who might be deliberately out there as bait), I suppose the fool will get a temporary boost in the polls. Indeed, the White House will play it up as if Bush himself personally nabbed Hussein and courageously overcame great danger to catch him (the soldiers who caught him will be a footnote, or an afterthought). But if the attacks continue the second Bush honeymoon will end once again, and it will only reinforce the public sentiment that the job in Iraq is done and it is time for us to leave.
