1. Some reporters got together and were viewing the letters
Edited on Mon Oct-13-03 08:48 PM by zidzi
across the Nation from a "chain of newspapers" and noticed they were "identical".

3. Do we know they were 'forced?'
Their CO is saying they signed 'voluntarily.' Somehow, I doubt it, but we should be careful.

When your Company Commander 'asks' you to do something- unless you want the shittiest duty possible from then on out- you comply.

5. That's what was said on Mike Malloy! "Forced"...
I didn't get the Soldiers name but he didn't want to sign it because he didn't agree with it and then from there it was understood he was to sign it anyway.

the archives are on http://www.whiterosesociety.org

There is going to be more about it after commercial.

24. No, we don't know that
If there has been any credible reporting about that, it should be cited. As it stands, the reprts we do have say that the sigs were voluntary and it isn't a good idea, imo, to assume that the soldiers didn't mean it unless we hear it from them.

The astroturf method is bad enough without suggesting that soldiers in a war zone didn't mean what the available quotes say they mean!

36. You should listen to the archives of this Show then...
Because it seems it is now "lettergate"...and the Soldiers did Not know what they were signing! and in fact denied writing them...

"11 Newspapers had same letter..

West Virginia newspaper got letter and father congratulated son and his son said "I didn't write it"..

Edited on Mon Oct-13-03 10:25 PM by julka
from Beckley, WVA, IIRC, where I spent the week one night.

here......

"A seventh soldier didn't know about the letter until his father congratulated him for getting it published in the local newspaper in Beckley, W.Va.

"When I told him he wrote such a good letter, he said: 'What letter?' " Timothy Deaconson said Friday, recalling the phone conversation he had with his son, Nick. "This is just not his (writing) style."

He spoke to his son, Pfc. Nick Deaconson, at a hospital where he was recovering from a grenade explosion that left shrapnel in both his legs."

no shame at all

10. Yesterday I was at a forum
with the editor of the editorial page of my local newspaper, and were told that she and all or most of the reporters and editorial staff of that newspaper are on various listservs, and that reporters share much of this kind of stuff with each other. This paper, at least, does not want to print any kind of form letter or "astroturf" and try hard not to. They do require a phone number and contact the writer before publishing. Every so often they still get burned, but not a lot.

is using the "blood of our young Soldiers" for their purpose!

Now he's talking about the bushes' didn't include "body armour for urban gorilla warfare" into their budget.

And now some relatives are buying armour for their loved ones.

13. Relatives are buying soldiers body armor
Malloy just shared that. Evidently, Bush didn't even include body armor in his 87Billion request. It would cost $1500. for each soldier.

26. Guilty as charged.
And man, I am kicking myself for not getting to the zinger. It had me laughing out loud/vomiting. Here is what I remember. Man, I even rehersed it while I was on hold.

Texan: "You see, I am trying to build a consortium. And I want you to be in this consortium. And it will only cost you $15,000 a month to get on the list."

Iraqi: "I can't afford it." (This was supposable one of the wealthiest families in Iraq.) "Can't we come to another arraignment?"

Texan: "No. We can't come to another arraignment. Why? How do you think its done?"

Iraqi: "Well I give you contract and you give me money. Why should I give you money for contract? Especially when I can not afford it."

Texan: "Now you see. That is socialism. Socialism is dead, gone. Its history. I am talking about capitalism. You give me money for you contracts."

These guys are crooks. Pure and simple.

39. They are corupt.
Something vary similar took place in the dark ages. The king would reword a friend or some one by making them into a land lord. And the land lord had a right to extract graft from the persons on his property.

What I heard on the radio is just as bad. It's a state sanctioned graft. The Iraqi has to pay a monthly gratuity just for the privilege of doing business. Once the gratuity stops, then the business stops flowing in. Its imperialism of the worst order. It was exactly this sort of "capitalism" that promoted the colonies to declare their independence.

This will NOT rebuild Iraq. This will make them into economic and political slaves, and will siphon even more recourses out of Iraq.

20. Don't know. The German military were a nation
unto themselves. They put their might behind whichever leader they thought would be best and serve their interests and Germany the best. However, once they threw their might behind Hitler, he used them as he needed them and eliminated those who didn't see his way. Eventually, he got rid of the troublesome Generals, promoted the ones he could control, giving them all kinds of things they liked like Iron Crosses. One day he made himself commander and chief of all the military, appointed his lackeys to run each service and executing the others for treason if they were lucky enough to even have a kangaroo court trial. I don't think it's all that fresh.
