1. No, and I wanted it
I didn't think People Magazine was known for its liberal stance. But the fact O'Liely went ballistic when Terry Gross tried to read it makes me wonder what was in it.

3. Thanks
I'm glad Terry was amused by O'Reilly. Personally, I think a mentally ill person like that should be given sympathy and a nice soft bed in a secure mental health facility. Isn't his radio show just exaserbating his paranoia and delusions of granduer?

4. People Mag review by Kyle Smith-10/6/03
After I unfavorably reviewed the FOX News Channel star’s last book, I turned on the TV to find I was O’Reilly’s “Most Ridiculous Item of the Day”. The big guy said on The O’Reilly Factor, “Review the book, not me”. Then he called me a “pinhead”.

Consistency isn’t his best feature. In this grab-bag of essays O’Reilly claims he belongs at “Burger King”, then whines about not being given “first-class airline travel and a decent publicist” in those rough early years. Separating him from his writing would require sandblasting. The words “I”, “me” and “my” appear more than 165 times-in the first 30 pages alone. The lessons of this bilious little book-you can sense him gasping and wheezing to make it to 212 padded, double-spaced pages-morph into tetchy personal stories. (He brags about how he ended a friendship over a parking lot fee.) His insights range from mastery of the obvious-“To have a friend, you have to be a friend”-to lots of his hero-martyr schtick: “No matter what, I will not surrender to the witch hunters and demagogues.” After he compares the Koran to Mein Kampf he complains, “The next day, a number of Muslim websites wrote that I compared the Koran to Mein Kampf, the usual vile propaganda some of these sites spew out.”

This review isn’t personal, Bill. As you put it, “People like to think that if you disagree with someone’s opinion you are attacking them. That’s just dumb.” Here’s a scandal for you: Millionaire Harvard-educated titan of Manhattan media elite bilks ordinary folks out of $24.95.

6. I listened to the whole thing
it actually goes on for more than half an hour before he leaves in a snit.

The interview was contentious - - but Terry Gross let him blather on about how he got into a fight with his father, etc., and I guess that is in his book.

At the end, when she asked about the People Mag thing, he just blew up.

It's painfully obvious that he had planned to upset the table at the end, and hang up the phone (or leave the studio - - they weren't in the same room).

Riley is a dickhead. That interview was fair.

7. I typed this whole thing verbatim from the mag
So it would be nice if people who didn't get the magazine that week and want to know what the review said could get to read it.

8. Thanks Scairp!
I had not read the review that was at the heart of this whole tantrum.

9. Thanks for the Work
The review gives me hope that SOMEbody out there (besides us) sees through this jerk. Great that they see these "books" with wide spaces and large type for what they are-----like Tweety's.

10. You're welcome
I hope we can keep this thread on the front page for at least a little while so that those who were interested in the review can read it.
