BBV: Ga Tech Public Forum on Thursday, Oct. 16
From the convener and moderator:

Georgia Tech's Internet and Public Policy Project (IP3) presents:

================================
DEMOCRACY AND TECHNOLOGY:
ELECTRONIC VOTING and GEORGIA

Thursday, October 16
3-4:30 PM
Clary Theater (in Student Success Center)
Georgia Tech
www.IP3.gatech.edu
================================

When the Georgia state government adopted electronic voting, it
established itself as a leader in the technology of democracy. Recently,
however, questions have emerged over the Diebold voting system used
across the state.

Last summer, university researchers published a report claiming that
the voting system is "far below even the most minimal security
standards applicable in other contexts." A later Diebold analysis claimed
to refute those criticisms, while a report by SAIC drew mixed conclusions.
The state of Maryland recently chose to adopt the Diebold technology.

This event offers computer scientists, public officials, and industry
representatives an opportunity to present their analyses to the
Georgia public. It offers a neutral, academic setting for a fact-based
discussion of what has become a contentious issue.

Speakers
=======
** Prof. Dan Wallach, Rice University Dept. of Computer Science, co-author
of "Analysis of an Electronic Voting System" (Johns Hopkins Information
Security Institute Technical Report TR-2003-19)

** Prof. Douglas Jones, Examiners for Electronic Voting Systems, state of Iowa,
and faculty member of the Iowa State University Dept. of Computer Science.

** Moderator: Prof. Hans Klein, Director of IP3 and Associate Professor
of Public Policy, Georgia Institute of Technology.

(Speakers have also been invited from Diebold Election Systems and from
the Georgia state government.)

1. It will be interesting to see if anyone from Diebold or Cox's office shows
Given the high-powered panel, I have a feeling that the powers that be will avoid this forum like the plague, then pooh-pooh it when the reporters call for their comments.

2. I'll be there with bells on
I think this is going to be a very "historic" event. By that I mean that we will see a sea change in attitude in Georgia after this meeting. I think many are beginning to realize this is a real problem and it MUST be addressed in a very big, very public way.

We should note that Dr. Britian Williams and the elections officials in Georgia have refused to show up. Running scared, ya think?

Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 10:27 AM by DEMActivist
GA Tech students will tape it for a fee of $150.00. If anyone wants to kick in a few bucks to pay the cost, PM me or Eloriel. We don't have a way to do any fundraising, but we'll figure something out.

Perhaps we can send donations straight to the GA Tech folks.....working on that now.

43. Well, Schumer told them this won't go away
so they best face it now. He called the current 'investigation', as it's going, a fraud.

I enjoyed listening to Schumer, and you could tell he was too because what he was saying was so incredible, it would be funny if it weren't so serious and life-threatening to our agents and foreign nationals.

I'm enjoying your graphics.

54. Well...
what it means is that I think Chuck Hagel won in 96. While I do acknowledge that there is voter fraud(Florida 2000, definitely), I am a bit wary of people who claim that every election is stolen, naturally. I don't find it weird when Chuck Hagel wins statewide in Nebraska, a state that has not gone in the Democratic column for president in almost 40 years.

59. Hi, Loyal, I'll be nice
Edited on Thu Oct-16-03 11:57 PM by BevHarris
But I'll also suggest that you read Chapter 6, to get the facts and a little more perspective on Hagel.

It's actually quite a short chapter. This will take you directly to it: http://blackboxvoting.com/bbv/bbv_chapter-6.pdf

And no one here says every election is stolen, but you should definitely get the FACTS by skimming Chapter 2, 100 documented cases of miscounted elections: http://blackboxvoting.com/bbv/bbv_chapter-2.pdf

And for more info, go to http://www.blackboxvoting.com and check out these:

Chapter 1: What the founding fathers had in mind
Chapter 3: Some solutions
Chapter 4: Can these things be rigged?
Chapter 5: Certification system is broken
Chapter 7: First ever look inside a secret voting system
Chapter 8: Who's minding the store
Chapter 9: Rob Georgia

For a better idea of the anomalies we are facing RIGHT NOW go to the reports at http://www.BBVreport.org

Forgive those who are impatient with you; many have watched the information I'm sending you to unfold over many months, and several helped it unfold.

Thanks for your input; start anywhere, and when you are ready, we're ready to welcome you into black box activism!
